Abandonments

On the way home last night, conversation turned from quantum physics and biological determinism to the vexed question of abandoned Margate matches. Obviously two in a season is a record (and I expect JT to be along shortly to confirm this fact Roy Castle-style). But all the ones we've been involved in during the time I've been watching the club have been away (even the abandoned 'home' Kent Senior Cup tie with Cray in 2004/05 was at Ashford). Can any of the older supporters recall a game at Hartsdown not being completed?

Only game ever abandoned at Hartsdown Park was on 7th December 1966 - a Kent Senior Shield tie against Canterbury that City were winning 1-0 at the time. Waterlogged pitch. Only one other Margate home game ever abandoned which was in March 1913.

In the club's entire history only 13 competitive matches have ever been abandoned.

Current season now equals record of two games brought to a halt in the same season - happened twice during the 1912/13 campaign.
