Trophy Run

I'd love us to have a good Trophy run this year.

 

In the four competitions since Forest Green, I'm trying to think how many games we've actually won in the Trophy.

 

I can only think of two - Wisbech and Newport County.

 

1999/00 - beaten by Thame United (!) in first game

2000/01 - beaten by Chester after win against Newport (was there an earlier round??)

2001/02 - thrashed by Canvey after doing Wisbech in a replay (some of us never got to the away match - thanks to the Supporters Club for all your help in that one! <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> )

2002/03 - can't remember, but we lost it

Lost to Hayes last year.

 

00/01 - I think we won 2-0 at Chelmsford with Simba getting both, then Newport(1-0 Strevens), then someone else possibly before Chester???

02/03 - loat at home to Hayes 0-1

00/01 - beat Chelmsford 2-0 away, then beat Bashley 7-1 away, then Newport etc.

Hayes - that's right!!

 

I remember the Chelmsford game - I was getting that mixed up with an FA Cup game we had with them.

 

Chester definitely followed Newport, as I remember we had three fixtures against ex-League opposition in a row - Newport, Aldershot, Chester - and won two of them!!

Bashley - of course! How could I forget that one!?

 

Firing plastic bows from plastic arrows at the Bashley keeper. What a laugh!!

Only season I had before the Trophy run was 97-98, when we beat Stortford 5-2 (5-0 up at half time!), squeezed past Sittingbourne after a replay, and then lost up at Barrow.

I don't think we got past the secod round in the 90's (until '99) although we did play some quality teams - Kidderminster, Woking, Merthyr Tydfil, Welling, Barrow and Kettering to name a few.

We have only ever once gone beyond the Last 32 since the competition began. We have definitely underachieved in the Trophy.

Merthyr was an excellent game. I have the video at home. It shows the Jon Farmer pitch invasion where he went to shake hands with their keeper after we scored.

Thinking about it, was that the week Bobby Moore died? (Not having a poke, Riccy !)

 

I seem to remember an incident with some Merthyr fan who didn't observe the silence.

Just checked and he died 24th February 1993.

 

Man, I'm good with dates!!
