Training

Recommended Posts

It seems that everyone I talk to has differing ideas on training at this level. From what I have heard at least 1 top "6" Div 1 side from not training at all, others twice per week.

Surely no training sends out the wrong message to the players and must effect their fit/sharpness, especially given all the recent cancellations and likelihood of more.

What training schedules do clubs consider enough, none, 1 or 2 times per week & does that vary within Div1 and the Premier / clubs and teams at the top of their respective tables from mid table or relegation battlings teams?.

How do clubs cope with training facilities during cold snaps like we're experiencing, which seems to be threatening to get worse. The extra non budgeted cost must have a bearing on already stretched finances? Anyway just curious as this looks like getting worse for a while yet, not better!

We train once a week, we find it hard to get everyone to both a Tuesday and Thursday so the once on a Wednesday everyone turns up and there's no excuses why you can't turn up for just the once unless its very important!

We train once a week on a Wednesday. On a 3G pitch at Queens Mary College. I'm a great believer that players should be disciplined enough to maintain there own level of fitness away from football as well. This time of year, training is purely used to work on bit and pieces, if your not fit at this time of the season, your never gonna be.

Self discipline would be important as well - I'm sure that many players will do morning jogs or swimming to help stay in shape.

I guess so and as you say that clearly sets apart a decent manager / management team from a great and successful one.

I must say though, I had assumed that 2 midweek sessions would have been the norm and that poor weather would have had a bigger impact.

Agreed, 2 sessions is the norm. But your also find that a majority of teams train on there pitch. And with the weather and conditions of pitch, this makes this not possible. So having to hire facilities for training can be costly, so once a week is normally affordable.

we train twice tues an thurs if game off we train also but that depends on our 3g being hired out or back pitches in poor conditrion

i will mention that barry chapman our very own dishwasher is taking training an every session is enjoyable yet intense i speak on behalf of all players that were really enjoying an putting it in so a keep up the good work message baz!!!

I'm guessing Knaphill as I know that's their training schedule. On a side note I played football for the first time in 7 months last week without training and its impossible your legs just don't work. Played like Jan Molby dominated the centre circle.

What club you involved with Inbetweener? I'd love to do morning runs but my so physical It's shatters me. Hate running too!! Ha!!

Yeah he is Knaphill. Spinning on a Monday is a good cardio workout, although we did a circuits session this week instead for a change. We then train on the 3g at Winston on a Wed.

If we have a midweek game we would usually cancel the Monday session for those involved. I think a lot depends on what facilities you have available at your club, or what the club are prepared to foot the cost for.

How long to the training sessions last for, for most people, whether it is once or twice?

My daughter plays for Carshalton Athletic U-14's and trains twice a week, 90 minutes each session!

Carshalton A use the 3G floodlit pitch at Archbishop Lanfranc school near Mitcham Common.

Decent surface and used by 3 different Carshalton junior teams each session (pitch split into 3's) - boys and girls, from 10yo up to late teens.
