Anyone else heard a rumour

According to the pinned thread on promotion, Windsor didn't apply for promotion anyway.

I did a bit of calculation on that thread and Gernsey do currently have the best ppg in our division. I worked out who would / could go up based on two scenarios 1) points per game and 2) current position Scenario 1) had Guernsey and Egham going up and scenario 2 had Egham and Epsom & Ewell going up.

Of course, this will all change as many more games will be played by the end of March and I personally don't believe they will do this anyway.

Unless of course this suggestion relates to the end of March as in 1st April maybe?

You'll like this one then. I heard yesterday that if the weather continues to hammer the schedule, and there remains a massive backlog by the last weekend in March, then on the following Monday it will be announced that AVERAGE POINTS PER GAME will be used to decide promotion / relegation.

A quick tot in my head leaves my lads clear leaders (at present) with the Eggs second. Don't think Windsor would be too keen though as we could have about 19 games in hand by then.

Don't know where you heard that GG but whoever it came from is having a laugh with you ! There are no absolutely no rules in place to make judgements on a PPG basis at any level of football other than those for this one season only to choose the 14 teams required to fill step 4 places once the leagues' fixtures are completed. The season can be extended until the first weekend in May if required [which is when all contracts expire] so to suggest that guesswork will be used to promote teams is frankly diabolical. It matters not whether Windsor would be 'too keen' on it as they will not finish in a promotion place anyway and knew that when they didn't apply for consideration for promotion.

Having been involved in major backlogs in the past I've never seen a season not completed and have seen teams play 3 games a week [and more!] to get their games played. That's where a decent size squad comes into its own as you no longer train just try to keep rested as the games come thick and fast and you wil find that players will play with niggling injuries while you're winning. In my view Guernsey are still odds-on to win the league but major injuries could be your downfall unless you start to sign mainland-based players !

There are often leagues that are unfinished. When it happens, as far as I'm aware, it's always just been tough on the teams who haven't finished all their games. Like you say, no PPG. I'm not sure any games affecting promotion and / or relegation have been left unplayed though. That would be interesting.

The CCL Premier Division in 2000-01 and 2007-08 had a game each unplayed and then of course there was Division One in 2007-08 with Neasden Foundation not playing 12 games. I'd forgotten about them until this post!

Also Ryman League 2000/01. Two games left unplayed in Epsom's division that season. Neither of which would have moved either of the teams up or down a place.

We played 17 matches between 3rd April and 5th May inclusive. We actually played 6 games in 8 days in the final week of April.

One small correction to the above comments wwhich is that PPG will be used each year when determining which Step Four (or above) clubs get a reprieve across the leagues. I presume this will also apply for Step Five relegatees from next season as part of the FA reorganisation.

I'm sure there is an emergency week available if really necessary, but the FA have to allocate the steps 1-4 and they can't do that until step 5 is complete, or at least, until the promotion places are determined. If we go back further though, remember that everyone moans because the fixtures come out so late, but the later the top steps are allocated, the later the fixtures will come out too.

I was just looking into that season. Hendon were two games short in the Ryman Premier. Canvey Island played 12 games in 13 days to get their backlog cleared.

I think in 2002 when the FA insisted that leagues finished on a certain date regardless meant that Slough Town had to play 2 games in one day and they needed to win both to avoid relegation. As it happened they lost the first game so did not have to play the second.
