Mind games have started

Can't blame Egham as I'm sure they were keen given our injury list. But Christ, do officials not consider weather forecasts the day before GFC and their fans travel ? Yes, we are a special case.

It did rain heavy in the early hours but the officials have made a bad call here, if Egham have said its fine this morning it's not rained since it should of been fine, Ref has still been paid so a nice an pay day

feel sorry for all travelling fans

especially one little boy and his dad

Kevin Graham tweeted "I will be taking George Graham 200 miles from Yorkshire down to Egham to watch the famous @GuernseyFC #COYGL"

and players

6am stroll to the airport brings back the @GuernseyFC routine! Let's hope 2013 is as memorable as 2012! Massive 4 months ahead!

so how can a pitch thay looked fine

About 2 hours ago4 degrees in Egham. Im told the pitch is fine. All set for a good game...hopefully! COME ON EGHAM!!!

be called off by an "official" an hour before kick off ????????????????

Egham printed programs, food, drink, for the expected large crowd, and insult to injury pay the officials!

All I can add to this is that I did not get the text telling me the game was off until 12.44. That tells me that the decision was made very late. I actually turned up at the ground and saw an all but deserted car park; at the time of the text from our secretary I was cooking lunch and had my phone on charge, happily expecting that I would be cheering on my beloved Sarnies. If the expected bad weather does what we all fear then this season will have to be extended, surely. We have another crack at visiting HW on Tuesday, but I am not that hopeful.

I was one of several Gsy fans ( came from London not gsy) for the game and didnt find out about the cancellation u til after we had got one train to egham. We went anyway yo visit a pub ot 2 as we had already paid for our train tickets so thought we'd try and make the best of our trip.

we went to see the ground. The fact the ref called it off is an absolute joke. The pitch was perfectly playable. Someone told us there was some water in thr centre circle but if it was bad enough to warrant a cancellation we would have been able to see it from the end of the pitch. Complete farce the game could have easily have been played. Gsy would be well within their rights to complain about the decision. The ref does not deserve his match fee for that decision, especially considering he is apparently getting the fee even though the game didn't go ahead

I'm sure photo evidence will appear soon but it is ridiculous, Anothet game in the fixture backlog when it would have been perfectly ok to play

Green Lion, Guernsey Geordie, Maisiecat and HKP. I too was gutted this game was called off as I was looking forward to watching it like many others.

Is it the case now that Guernsey FC may now have to make a midweek trip to Egham, which I think would slightly rule in Eghams favour........ I say no more ;) !

But, can someone tell me the Guernsey FC arrangements had Egham agreed to an earlier kick off time say 1.00/1.30pm as opposed to refusing Guernsey FC their request for an earlier kick off time and insist on a 3pm kiick off ? An earlier kick off would have meant and earlier inspection..... as opposed to being inspected at 12.30/12.45 pm which by then obviously Guersney FC were on route ? Solution ?.

Doubt it would have made any difference, Guernsey flight took off at 7am.

I hope Guernsey put in a claim for expenses against the ref today. I've spoken to officials who were there and they say the game should have been played. Here's a photo.

It's about time the CCL got rid of refs who are too scared to play on these surfaces. They all have public liability insurance so they've got no excuse to not play. Maybe if clubs start sueing them for expenses they might grow some balls and get the games played.

Our reserve game at Chalfont St. Peter was postponed today after their chairman had a word with the ref who was happy to play. This happened at 2pm. We're putting in a report and a claim for expenses. Refs need to man up and start giving something to the game rather than just taking all the time. Most of them are a bunch of tax dodgers anyway. I hope HMRC look at them as much as they look at football clubs.

Funny how the 2nd most maligned pitch in the CCL was playable today yet many others were not.

Perhaps if a small amount of standing water is a problem clubs should actually clear the water ?

No criticism of the Chalfont Chairman then VP ?

Yes, there is criticism of the Chalfont chairman. That's what I've said. We're putting in a cliam for expenses. He told the ref the gams shouldn't go ahead. The ref, for some reason, went along with his decision.

The thing is, it's a voluntary cup that Chalfont have entered. Why enter it if you don't want to play in it? See also Chessington & Hook reserves who couldn't field a side against us on Tuesday.

Funny seeing a tweet from Aylesbury FC as well showing how well their pitch looked. Thjis is the same club that postponed their youth game against us on Thursday as the pitch was allegedly waterlogged.

I'm not one for this compensation culture but it seems it's the only thing these clubs and officials understand so sue the lot of them. if they don't like it they can get out of the game.

It is a twofold problem. Clubs are overly protective of their pitches and refs can sometimes be a bit too weak on their decisions on games. With the way our weather is now going and it is clearly a trend over the last 3 or 4 years people are going to have to start accepting that pitches are going to have to take some punishment. Perhaps some clubs could spend less on players and a bit more on sorting their pitches out. Also I go back to a suggestion that if a game is called off more than once the game is switched to the away side. It works in Youth football. If the home side cannot provide a suitable pitch then the away side can host if they are able to provide a pitch. Maybe that would lessen what we are seeing now.
