Floodlights

Recommended Posts

I've noticed the difference in floodlights at different grounds. Ours light the middle of the pitch great, darker in the corners. Dunstables weren't particularly bright all over. Quite amusing really

Yes there is, and a certificate of test has to be lodged with the League/F.A. each season.

(I just couldn't be bothered to look up chapter and verse, then cut and paste, Karen !)

Dooh, I wasn't aware the SSML Handbook was available electronically, now you tell me.

Don't think there's much difference between the Leagues as it's all basically put together by that Wonderful organisation, The F.A. !!

  • 2 months later...

An old link I know, but I noticed how dim Buckingham Athletics lights were the other night during their home game (I may be getting on but don't think it was all down to my eyesight.) I doubt very much they would be up to current standard if they were to be installed nowadays.

Are there any teams currently in South Mids div 1 that don't have floodlights this season?

All Division One teams are required to have floodlights.

Crawley Green, London Lions and Wodson Park are ground-sharing to get round this problem although London Lions are hoping to install lights at their Rowley Lane ground this summer.

The sooner the better as the league are now making us play at hemels ground against them on a Thursday night as Hemel are now using the pitch for a tin pot cup final on the wednesday, they did give us a option to play at London lions ground on the Wednesday at 6.15 lol ground shares are a joke if you haven't got floodlights then be in division 2 until you have.

Can I draw your attention to below - you will see that the London Lions issue is of no fault of their own

2. Constitution issues.

2.1. The Chairman reported that Broxbourne Borough had advised that the previous owners of the club had left the club with large debts, which may necessitate them placing the club into liquidation unless other financial backing can be found.

This meant that London Lions, who ground share at Broxbourne Borough, may not have a ground to play on next season unless the position is resolved quickly.

London Lions had expressed their concern at the situation and wished to stabilise their position in the near future. In this respect they had requested dispensation to play Saturday home games at their Rowley Lane headquarters, which does not have floodlights, with mid week matches being played at Hemel Hempstead Town for next season. The club had advised that they were in the process of applying for planning permission for facilities required for Step 6, but did not expect this to be resolved quickly.

The Committee considered their position, which was not of their own making, and decided to grant dispensation for this for next season only, with Saturday kick off times set to reflect the fact that they do not have floodlights.

You can draw my attention to whatever you want they were at broxbourne for 2 seasons and this at Hemel. Is 3 seasons not long enough to get floodlights ? My main point is that because they have no lights us Cranfield now have to go out of our way to play Thursday then 2 days later, which is not acceptable let alone fair,I have half a mind to not field a side and then let's see if cockfosters think its right.

We didn't hear you complaining when you had to travel to play Crawley Green (at Barton Rovers - because like London Lions they do not have floodlights) on Wednesday 9th January.

Stop bleating Lee. You may have noticed the weather hasn't been great this season & clubs just have to get on with it thanks to those lovely people at the FA. I still can't understand why clubs at Step 5/6 have to abide by the playoff deadline for clubs at Step 4 & above. We all know that promotion & relegation at our level doesn't get decided until the AGM season in June anyway.

Just be grateful you haven't got a game on the Tuesday as well.

Tring have only had 3 (I think) home games called off this season, had a fair few "free" midweeks and are now in the middle of 7 games in 15 days

Saturday (Aylesbury away), Tues (Hadley home), Thursday (tonight at Oxhey), Saturday (home to St Mags), Tuesday (Harefield home), Thursday (Haringey home), Saturday (Hillingdon away)

..... and then 2 more free midweeks
