ShiftyOnFire
Bull's Eye view: MVSCR 4-1 Farleigh. firstly - considering South Park played Colliers wood the night before this Cup game of ours the pitch played very well, so hats off to the grounds team for that one! The game was a fairly even contest, apart from we couldn't put the ball in the net, we played some fantastic football at times but with no end product or even many attempts on goal. (I think Leigh Bowden had 2 confortable saves to make the whole game) Pagey managed to get one past me, (yes just one, so i'm happy) with a well placed header from a corner after about 20 mins, it could of been a few more had Jonjo's 5/6 attempts not been in my "comfort zone" to save! 1-0 at HT but still in the fight. The second half started what can only be describe as "the worst possible start to a second half ever" a fairly simple back header for our very own Mr Tyrone Peters managed to somehow come off his neck & into the path of the lively Marvin Robers who calmly slotted past me! 2-0 down with 44 mins to play of the second half, we still made things happen, Sam Clark, Leon Worley, & Rio Ferguson made the MVSCR midfield work very hard for possesion and did cause problems but only for their attemped through balls to come to nothing. The third goal came from a good cross from a young lad (who came on as sub) An early call from me to claim it only before it was in my hands, our very own skipper Martin Dell decided to shin the ball into the top corner! Great finish, just in the wrong goal. 3-0 down and our luck suddenly changed, a thunderbolt shot from outside the Mole Valley area, managed to "hit" the diving (body on the line) defender's upper arm and for the ref to call a penalty to Farleigh, in my opinion very harsh as the poor lad was horizontal and had no intentions of blocking the shot with his arms! Chas Davis sent Bowden the wrong way from the spot. 3-1 Game On... well until we conceded a penalty with about 2 mins to go, with the fog getting thicker. Again not the best of decisions from Mr linesman as our defender Nelson Mandella got the ball but managed to get the man too. The spot kick was put away by Rob McCarry. A good game to be part of, played in the right spirt, and some great football from both sides. It showed last night that we haven't played a game since the beggining of December 2012!!! Also good to catch up with Phil Page, a good egg that boy. Thanks for the hospitality MVSCR, look forward to our two league games against each other coming soon. & also a little mention to Lisa Harding who took some snaps of lasts nights game, the MVSCR Website has the photos. ShiftyOnFire
Nelson Mandela is all I know our right back as! It may even be his full name! Or "della" for short. Rio is proving to be a useful player for us, great feet & skill. Only 5'4" but useful & a great fella!
The Mayor Of Simpleton
I'm glad that he's doing the business for you, Shifty. Barry Yaya and Hadji Traore are players worth keeping an eye on too from UKFF as well, just in case you are in the market for a defender/striker and/or full-back.
