You had some very good playrs in those days,Payney for starters!!!! We went to Bromley one Tuesday evening when Dixon Gill got his second stint of managing Egham. Goulding was superb that night, scoring (I think) two and we won 2-0, having expected to get thrashed. That was Goulding's highlight for us - his last game for us was at Met Police and was more typical of his showings with us; lazy to the point of rudeness to the club, and escorted off the Imber Court pitch by the sound of Egg & Ham giving him a right earful for being sodding useless and only showing up for the money. Still, he got better...
Charlie Farleigh
I seem to remember him scoring a couple against a very good Lewes side, going down 5-2 at the Drippping Pan, I think ?!
PurpleTram
Jeff Goulding started off at Croydon as a right sided midfielder, aged 17, and in his first spell with us, the one thing guaranteed was that he was never going to score. Miss open goals from close range or hit spectacular 30 yarders against the woodwork, but definitely not going to score! He looked quite useful, but I certainly didn't expect him to forge a career in League 2 at the time. I think Dickson Gill takes credit for converting him to a striker when he went firstly Clapton and then onto Egham. Goulding did come back to Croydon for a brief loan spell in 2005 when he was coming back from injury, and finally did score once for the club. As chartaroad says, he got better .... UK Sub
I remember he used to have a bit of an attitude problem and needed to grow up a bit and hadn't filled out at that point. Great potential though. The next I heard of him was at Bournemouth in the year they got promoted. Glad he went on to bigger things !
