A POEM FOR THE DARLINGTON GAME

Called "The Drums"

The green expance appeared empty in the early winter sun.

Late autumn leaves whisped along, like feathers in the wind

At all sides there was a bustling.

And the drums rolled.

Birds, they scattered in all directions as the noise increased.

All of a sudden the green expanse was awash with Red & White

The Urchin boys will show their mite!

And the drums rolled.

The shrill of a whistle sounded the beginning

The air was alive with shouts, screams and excitement.

All sides were one in the cold crisp air

And the drums rolled.

Twoing and throwing,

End to end,

Flying men through the sky.

Trains rattled by on the ground above

People in another life.

And the Drums rolled.

Then it happened, out of nowhere

The onion bag buldged

And we all punched the air

The whistle sounded and over it was

The Urchin boys with the hands aloft

And the Drums rolled

How the Drums rolled!

Cheers Unc! I'll have to work on a more singable ditty for which to sing aloud on the terraces!! God, I can't wait for the 9th!! Been a long time since I have got this excited over a match. The magic of the FA Cup, unbeatable!!

The excitement in the bar on Saturday during the draw was brilliant!

Can't wait!!!

here's one you'll like....

the wonderful love of a beautiful maid

and the love of a staunch young man

the love of a baby unafraid

has existed since time began

but the greatest love, the love of love,

greater than that of a mother,

is the tender and passionate infinate love,

of one pissed up fan for another.... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

ha ha ha...

me favourite poem of all time....
