V Uxbridge

Not that I want to hop onto the negativity bandwagon :) , but that's (going by the twitter feed) another 2nd-half collapse against Uxbridge this season. That's on the back of yet another distinctly average performance against Beaconsfield (4 in a row, as I said on Tuesday). Are other teams cottoned onto how to play against us?

I'm off now to take my frustrations out by abusing and slagging off my work colleagues, the players, manager and fellow forum members in an attempt to prove how big and clever I am!

Totally gutted after losing today.

First half misses were costly but that's no excuse for an abysmal second half performance. We were 1-0 up and should have come out firing second half but instead we dished up a shocker.

Forget about the missed chances first half, that can happen to any player at any level, forget about the 3 goals Uxbridge scored, one was a penalty, one was the only mistake Brownie made all game and the third was when we went gung-ho with 3 forwards to try and get something from the game .

I'm more concerned about being out battled and out fought by nothing more than a hard working Uxbridge team.

First half looked very promising with some neat looking moves but the second half was devoid of any battling qualities and any creativity from our mis-firing midfield.

One example was our free kicks. We had numerous chances from free kicks to put the Uxbridge defence under all sorts of pressure but virtually every one was poorly taken and wasted. Uxbridge had a lot less but everyone put us under pressure.

No doubt we have the quality in the squad but do we have the players who will, when necessary, graft and battle for the 3 points?

After losing today against a limited but hard working Uxbridge team I really don't think we have.

It's not all over but we have a mountain to climb if we want automatic promotion.

One of the things we have to overcome is the fact every team sees us as the one they want to beat. That's why SYCOB always play up against us and apparently Uxbridge celebrated in the dressing room like they'd won the FA Cup today.

We've got to be able to put up with that week in week out - we've certainly got the quality.

two big games against Biggleswade coming up in two weeks time. 2 wins puts us right back in it

Good time to play Biggleswade.

They have won 8 drawn 1 of their last 9 league games. Sort of game to really get the team fired up.

Must have seen that kind of loss many times. We were clearly better than Uxbridge first half and should have been out of sight, but second half once we'd conceded the pen. we couldn't get going again. We even had clear cut chances 2nd half to score but couldn't.There is a tactic employed by a lot of teams ....shut us down all over the pitch, hit the ball long and get our defenders turning. Clearly we don't have an answer, especially where the oppo get that important goal at a time when we are struggling to come to terms with the situation. That massive amount of work pressing is not usually sustainable for 90 mins but for 45 mins it obviously is (at Step 4 anyway). Fair play to Uxbridge rode their luck and turned it around, let's hope they can do that Saturday against Godalming too!!

I don't think one team will run away with this league and it would not shock me if it went to the last day with 3 or four teams still with a chance of winning it and I think we have as good a chance as any.

As for us yesterday the only thing I will say is for me there is a recurring theme in my opinion when we either go behind in the second half, or get pegged back in the second-half - particually at home.

We seem to completely panic. In my opinion we tend to stop passing the ball and lump-it upfield as soon as possible and also try playing at 150mph like it's the last 2 minutes of the game even when there is loads of time remaining. When we play like that we lose all shape to our side and as a result concede futher goals. There's no need to do this, yet it's happened yesterday, Guildford at home and at home to Rugby as well as on other occasions. We need to stay calm, play at our normal pace and pass the ball around and create openings this way - that's when we are at our best and that's when we create our best chances.

This seasons team is doing nothing like as well as last seasons Last season after 17 games we had won 11 drawn 4 and lost just 2 and this with home and away games in balance 8H9A Catch up wont be as easy as some seem to think since we have only played 5 away games It certainly wont be possible with the type of displays against SYCOB and Uxbridge both of whom wanted it more than Slough The team doesnt seem to be motivated or have any real desire at present as soon as things go wrong they lose shape and purpose Nothing will be handed to them thats for sure Catch up is possible St Neots showed that last season but there needs to be an attitudinal change imo.

The flip side of the argument, Adrian, is it actually might be easier to get points away. There's more pressure on the home side to attack giving us the opportunity to play on the counter. At home teams play with ten behind the ball against us. I'm not worried about the prospect of getting results on the road necessarily.

Fair point Ian we have only lost 4 out of 15 points away from home but I do sense a touch of "It'll be alright on the night" creeping in from some and its going to be hard What is also a bit worrying is the number of points we have collected this season from the poorer teams from the basement we have played a quite disproportionate number of these matches Of our 11 wins only 3 have come from teams above us

I think you're being a bit harsh,IrishAdrian. Last season we went out the fa cup early. This season, the fa cup run has been a great success from a spectators point of view, the publicity it generated and the club has also earned a few bob. This has enabled Steve Bateman to strengthen the squad.

The problem for Steve is how do you keep all the squad happy and also get the best out of the team that take the field.

Luckily, other Southern Central teams resuIts yesterday, didn't effect Slough's position too much, given our loss.So we still have a great chance of getting a lot higher up the table.

I think losing Dave Deeney and Sean Fraser[if he is injured and not been rested] has affected the balance of the team and certainly hasn't helped with the last two results.

I do wonder, however, why we waste the talents of Adam Logie, Steve Perkins, Ollie Burgess, Steve Sinclair and Sam Bateman when all of them are more than capable of giving us a different dimension,in the usual problem area for Slough, that of centre midfield. Obviously,Sinclair and Burgess aren't defensive types but they are a threat going forward and from my point of view ,our best form of defence would be to up our attack options.

We should be capable of wiping the floor with teams like Uxbridge. Not getting beaten at home to them,if we want to be champions of this division.

Still, let's hope it's just a blip. Onward and upward!
