Tonights Game - Yeeeessssssss!

Recommended Posts

A great advert for football at this level. Even if the first half was dire!

I couldn't tell you what the score was on Penalties except that we won! A true nailbiter of an evening.

After travelling down to Exeter on Saturday and seeing the game tonight I believe these teams were so evenly matched it is untrue. I feel pretty sorry for the Exeter supporters making that godawful trip home, they contributed in full to the entertainment tonight and it really was a pity there had to be a loser. Good luck to them for the rest of the season! One or two question marks on our defence tonight but I think any criticisms of the game should be left for a while and we should all savour a fine victory!!!

Just a shame we got an absolutely crap draw after that performance - still, Chester fans think they've already won it, so we'll do them and then get what we deserve in Round Two.

And then Round Three!

Brilliant performance tonight (from the 46th minute on!), the pennos were awful to watch but superbly taken - Skinner looked so like Batty running up, I thought he was gonna let fly over the bar.

Thanks for all the posts. It meant I could follow this down under. It was a great result.

Many home replays in the past have been disappointments and I was a bit worried especially at 0-1 and then at 2-2.

Has the team forgotten how to win though?

All those great draws away in the league means hardly a points haul to be proud of but a lot of confidence in the team's ability to grind out a result.

Hope there can be a home win at the weekend again and would be nice to get away from the foot of the ladder so the Cup can be given more impetus!

Thanks again to Dazza and co.

Very hard to get the replay scores here without this kind of effort unless it is many hours later.

Cheers

Just a shame though that there were only 1227 there - a terrific nights entertainment from half time onwards - some excellent finishing - even if there was a question mark over their 3rd goal - the ball certainly wasnt stationary when they took the free kick that led to the goal.

But for once, lets compliment the ref (breaking the habit of a lifetime I know, but its got to be done!!). Apart from the issue noted above and the booking of Haworth (surely any striker worth his salt has to go for that sort of ball and I even thought he got a slight touch on it), the ref did a good job, generally applying that thing sadly lacking with many refs, Common Sense, and allowing the game to flow.

At the time of writing this it is 1:40 a.m.

Nursie says that now that the chest pains have eased and my heart rate is under 70 beats/min, I can use Sisters PC while she's gone on her rounds.

Wow! What a game, we definitely got our moneys worth tonight. 120 minutes plus of football, 6 goals, 16 penalties, 11 penalties scored, an extra trip to Chester and £10,000 in the kitty.

Agree with whats been said so far, we were dire in the first half, Exeter pushed forward and kept us under the cosh. However, we came out with all guns blazing in the second half, so it was just a matter of time before we scored, but still think we went off the boil until Ben Abbey got our second. Pushing the defence further forward made a great difference, they fell for the off-side trap again and again. It saved us on several occasions, slowed down their attack and gave us more time on the ball.

I don't think we've played extra time since the Ryman, in the League Cup, Full Members or KSC. And no penalties so far this season? That was unknown territory, hence my over night stay in hospital.

Thanks lads for an nerve wracking, but entertaining evening. Same again on the 18th next against Chester.

Got to go, Nursie says Sisters coming back. Night-night.

What a fantastic team performance, all the lads played their hearts out and the crowd were behind them. (there be some tired legs and voices on Saturday). Still an excellent game full of drama. I was a bit worried when the whole team attempted to wall themselves with the sliding dive after Owen scored the winning penatly. Anyway £10,000 in the kitty and the Reds go marching on!!

I was scared when Ben Abbey stepped up 2 take a penalty, he had a terrible game (apart from gettin his name on the scoresheet), knew rob owen would score after wilko's super save! He must be a legend @ stonebridge road, he gives 101% every match! IF UR ALL GOIN 2 CHESTER CLAP UR HANDS!
