Smudge
Will the £454 million takeover of Sportingbet by William Hill announced on the 26th December, have any negative affect on Guernsey's future in the Non League Pyramid ongoing.I presume that the current agreement will have to be honoured,by William Hill, but will they renew it? Do they currently sponsor any Clubs?
Beano
They sponsor The FA, so I think William Hill appreciate the potential value partnerships with sporting organisations can offer. Any chance of you starting a thread of two that poses a positive question? It could be a New Year's Resolution.

Happy New Year to you too, Peter. You're right, I suppose, about a lack of mileage in positivity - I think that's why Ashford's forum is relatively quiet, it is a pretty happy club at the moment. I'm not one of the admin team for the current forum, so I have no idea whether or not they are happy with the number of views but a League forum should be busier than a single forum for one small club, shouldn't it? You do make an excellent point about our groundsman, who does a fantastic job. We've had two home games over Christmas when most of the rest of the games in our division were called off and Ben deserves a huge amount of credit for that. Six points on the board and a couple of decent gates are great news! We'll hopefully have an extra pitch for him to look after next season once our training area has been restored by Sport England's contractors. queues
The first clue to any further sponsorship of Guernsey FC by William Hill, will be if they continue to maintain a presence in the island, and employ the local staff, lets not forget it is not the best news for them just before Christmas, and the old, can we pay the mortgage if i can't find a new job for six months etc. The club has spread into the community and a lot of smaller companies, run by guys who twenty five years ago would have loved the opportunity to have played at this level, may be in a position to help out. Going forward my personal opinion is 10 smaller sponsors may be better than 1 single sponsor, all eggs in one basket etc. etc. but it may be a hard ask in the current economic climate. However when you look at a match programme, just about every player has been sponsored for the season, there are 30/40 different advertising boards around the ground. The support has continued into the second season, 750 plus season tickets sold. The bigger short term worries, are will we be relegated to the 1st division by the FA because we don't have a fence around the ground, or a 1m strip of hard standing! Do we have any chance of gaining promotion with the new fixtures, I think both South Park and Guernsey cup runs and the wet weather may mean we will play each other next year. I don't know what the plans are, but they'd better be good. Out of curiosity are the FA rules on grounds absolute, or is there any scope for discretion by the FA? Smudge
Ask Guildford City as to any discretion.Personally think they will bend over backwards to help Guernsey.Hoping they give you home ties in the Vase in the next Rounds.

Turnstiles is just one of several reasons that Footes Lane would currently fail the grade required.

This link might not be quite current, but covers all the major requirements: http://www.thefa.com...hx/GradeD09.pdf There's no need for seperate entry points for home and away fans, unless the home club identify that need. However, from my understanding, there are several areas where the ground might need work. Is that fair?

The major items I guess are the perimeter barrier, and thus incorporating turnstiles (can they be a temporary structure?), unless I am missing something obvious. I am not too sure on the implications of having development on more than one side or what qualifies as "development". We still have nt heard anything over here as to plans for the ground. Beano
The turnstiles will need to be housed within a secure, permanent structure that includes plexiglass or similar to protect the operator(s) from attack/theft of the cash box. That, the perimeter fence and hard standing around at least three sides of the ground are the key areas. "Development" usually means stands and / or covered standing areas, but is one of those vague phrases that can be "interpreted".
VPCTFC
"Development" usually means stands and / or covered standing areas, but is one of those vague phrases that can be "interpreted". It's even vaguer now. The gradings have been refined and reworded a bit since the one you've linked to. To get promotion from step 5 clubs need an 'E' grade - the 'D' grade is needed by March 31st in the year following promotion to stay at step 4. The Current gradings are on the FA website. http://www.thefa.com/Leagues/NationalLeagueSystem/GroundGrading Grade E currently says "Development, in addition to hard standing, should ideally be on more than one side of the ground." but grade D still says "must be on more than one side...". Clubs only need to show they can segregate crowds for a grade C and above.
Guernsey local
In answer to the original question I think there are worries that William hill will just move their entire operation elsewhere. That's certainly what I've heard from a friend of someone who works at Sportingbet at the moment.
