Part Time
Well Blimey looks like my original post has caused a bit of a stir! Sorry about any offence caused to anybody, not intended! On the subject of players capabable of making the step up, I think you can safely add Phil Draycott and Garcia to that list. Also cane up in conversation last night that big GK Robbie Timms is actively looking for a club right now. Hasnt played for a season or so and last season at Cranfield if I remember rightly (Lee is that correct!) but vast experience at SML Prem and above with Ampthill, Harpenden both Biggleswade teams and Barton Rovers. Wonder where he will end up - Could certainly do a job at Leighton or i'd imagine Ampthill if they lose there keepers to Leighton! Finally have to agree with Lee etc re moneys and budgets - None of us really have a clue who is and isnt paying, or how much they are paying if they are and of course thats accentuated by the fact 90% of players lie about what their getting and 90% of managers lie about what there paying! It does seem however there is more clubs, paying more money out currently than there was 5 or 6 years ago in the sml, which considering the way the world is financially right now is bizarre! I think its fair to say though if you want to win the Prem you need a sizeable budget. I recon £800 -£1,000 a week? Anybody know what the last few champions were paying.. Ladt i heard was Bigg Town was anout £1,200 the year they won it!!
lee bearman
Yes part time, Robbie helped me out of a spot when i first went there. He was big then if he hasnt played for a while i think some training might be needed first lol good shot stopper, allways helps i suppose being a keeper !!! If someone gave me a grand a week i would guarentee the title or i would give them their money back stupid amount, mind you i was on £75 a week whenwewon the league with Bedford town god knows how many years ago and i got £200 bonus at the presentation night, works out a few quid now i suppose. Was that South mids Prem early 90's? Quality side battered the league and some very good sides around then too, I remember watching as a kid. Got promoted next season too didn't you to isthmian 2. Paul Lyon
With regards to players Craig could take to that level. Steven flux has been ampthills best player this season by a country mile!!
Part Time
Afternoon Lee - Agree totally that £1,000 is silly money and should guarentee the title, but it doesn't always does it and you wonder how many clubs over the ladt few years have had budgets like that and not ended up where they wanted! I mean how much did Harefield United etc used to pay to continually finish 2nd/3rd/4th and not get promoted..Brache used to pay a fair whack for a while as well I believe, and they never even had tbe ground grading to go into Southern/Ryman league. I have never understood where these clubs think they are going as its not like its worth tens of thousands to them if they get promotion or win the league is it. The only incentive i can ever see is a vase or cup run! Re Robbie Timms a mate of mine plays cricket with him, and your right he's not the fittest. Don't think he ever has been (slim!) though, even when playing in the Southern League - I watched him a lot at Ampthill when he was younger (and they were very poor!) and he seemed ok but well overworked week in week out & always had an error in him! I was amazed when I went to see him play for Barton a few years later - So confident, commanding and like you say a good shot stopper with lightning reactions for a big fella! Shows what playing in a better team (as opposed to a struggling bottom 4 one) week in, week out can do for a player!

Agreed plenty of teams over the years have paid out masses (reportedly) and many don't even exist anymore. Shame.
lee bearman
Know Bedford got promotion the following year can't remember if I stayed or moved to Cambridge city in the would be conference south now I suppose my memory is terrible.I know I left Bedford at some stage then went back again and played for a bloke called mick foster strange man remember being the current top scorer in the isthmian paying wide right and him calling me in from training and telling me he was going to let me go ! Tring and Raunds had offered 500 quid each and I had a choice.so I called his bluff and said I would stay and pick my money up as I was on a contract,he then said I could leave and go to any club free.he said there was a clash of personalities to this day I don't think the Bedford supporters know the truth we used to get 500-750 for a south mids game when you get that many watching you can pay a few quid.Shame as I loved playing there good club good people good times. Yeah was and to some extent still is. They don't get crowds like that anymore. Didn't know you played at Cambs city though. Another excellent non league club. Foster managed us for a bit did well at Buckingham town. I'm told he was like marmite you loved him or hated him. Shame when things go bad at a club you love to be at. Who knows maybe you'll end up back there, big club with loads of potential if they can get a good number of fans back through the gate week in week out Edited January 3, 2013 by Winslow Boy

Part Time
Reading between the lines of that little convo, the Bedford Town job is either one of the Southern League jobs that Lee has talked of turning down previously, or he's being lined up to go there nect year! lee bearman
I know the manager at Bedford Nicky he is doing a great job there this season with a small squad.I know a few of the lads there at the moment and a lot of lads in and around that division and as i said great club, and with more hard work could be a top non league club with big support once again.
