Wellsie
I just wanted to let supporters know that Cliff has spoken to the Groundhopper to explain the club's position to which the guy indicted to Cliff he would revise his blog. Interestingly he has so far (as at 4.30pm) only added a statement at the bottom of the blog post (which no one will see unless they scroll down far enough) acknowledging the conversation and the club's offer for him to come back at some time in the future. With Cliff having already made the offer to the guy to call him, I think Cliff deserves great credit for taking the initiative and calling the guy back. Given what he'd written, I'm not sure I'd have been that conciliatory! As a result of this experience, we will be introducing a policy of no admission on match day before the turnstiles open so there can be no confusion. I'll be writing that up and including it on the website asap. If people do want to request access they will be able to do so using our Press / Media Pass Process. As I say, that should make it clear to anyone wanting to come into the ground to take photos on match day and to all our match day colleagues. On the point that Cookie raised in response to my point about cover at Hartsdown Park, I'm disappointed you felt the need to bring that up to be honest. If you'd been at Lowestoft you'd have seen one covered stand that included seating and terracing on one side of the pitch that gave roughly - I'm not saying smaller than Hartsdown Park - the same cover we have at Margate. And that's true of a lot of the clubs in our division. At the Cray game, we had 400 people undercover (except perhaps the first couple of rows at the front of the seated stand which you'd get at any Premier League ground never mind Hartsdown Park!) and there was still space on the terracing (albeit not loads of it) and seats in the seated stand. Given current attendances, that suggests we do have enough cover although I'd love to see us struggling to get everyone undercover later in the season! I think there was an issue raised about the charge to enter the seated stand. Supporters will recall that we did reduce the original price of £2 back to £1 based on supporter feedback. Given the number of ides expressed about helping the club out at the moment, perhaps paying to sit in the stand is one thing people can do if they don't already do so. There have been comments about covering the Coffin End at Hartsdown Park and the club has made its position clear but I'll repeat it here. While we hope to complete the stadium development, we will not divert funds from the playing budget to building a covered area at the Coffin End given the ambitions associated with the stadium. The only circumstances that additional covered capacity would be created is to meet Conference South gound grading criteira - which if we win promotion we have 12 months to do. In that case, a stepped terrace would be constructed at the Coffin end. Supporters are fully aware of the loss of main club sponsors. Given that situation, I - and Cliff - feel sure the supporters would rather the club and directors continued to finance a promotion chasing side rather than diverting funds for other purposes. As most of you have observed, it's a winning team that will bring people through the gate. I think that covers everything! Hopefully, we can all get back to supporting the Blues now - tomorrow or next week!
Coffin Ender
Some considered views on our 'friend' from the Conference Forum No indication that he'd arranged anything in advance, as far as I can see. Ground hopper in being sad [****!!****] and thinking world revolves around him and clubs MUST accommadate his weird fetish shocker! The bloke is clearly mentally ill. Non-league is full to bursting of these [****!!****]ing freaks. Serves him/her right for being a sad, groundhopping twat. If only they were all treated with the same disdain. His head should be dangled from Tower Bridge as a warning to any other benson's that fancy becoming groundhoppers. He also wants to learn to spell "puerile". And also to get a life. Coffin Ender 5 profanities within 6 lines - clearly an erudite individual. I suspect it was your goodself who posted a mountain of abuse on my blog, only to sign yourself as 'anonymous' Pretty harsh words you directed at myself .... thank you. Eastside Urchin
My problem with SOME ground hoppers is that their views, while that of that specific individual do have a detrimental effect on a club, should that club have an "off" day. I don't think for one minute they truly understand what it takes to run a non league club, this is probably because they tend not to be affiliated to one specific club but most non league clubs are run with the help of unpaid volunteers and if a club has a few issues one day,say with sickness or lack of volunteers for whatever reason, the ground hopper tends to be very derogatory in their views to which many people around the country read daily. Wellsie
Just thought I'd post the Onion bloke's statement following his telecon with Cliff: LATEST STATEMENT: 28 Dec 2012 Following my experience on Boxing Day at Margate FC and my email to the CEO Mr Egan ..... Fair play to them , they have reacted swiftly and acknowledged my concerns. Mr Egan was good enough to take the trouble to phone me to discuss in detail. Our conversation was amicable and they have been decent enough to invite me back for a home game any time in the future. A generous gesture indeed.Although my complaint was never made with this in mind. I wish them every success in their quest for promotion and beyond. I await with interest to see if he revises his blog comments as he suggested he would, or not.

As most of you have observed, it's a winning team that will bring people through the gate. Wellsie I fail to see why you should be dissapponted to hear me raise this issue again.Whats the problem with doing so? There was never any suggestion on my part either that the club were to finance any temporary covering (that that I wish for) as it has been brought up on a few occasions by a few people that there are other ways to purchase cover down that end. Collections, sponsored events etc by the fans and others or even outside sponsorship to raise the purchase price. This option/s were also knocked back when it was suggested to the club.Okay it might take a while to raise the necessary purchase price but as I mentioned Ramsgate supporters managed it in next to no time (for TWO covered terraces not ONE, so why can't we?) Be assured,if I were a rich man (well, richer than I already am) I would be offering to pay for it myself out of my own pocket. I can completely understand why the club would not want to splash out on this but again I wasn't inferring that that was to be the case. If the club were free from financing this would it still be a no,no cover until the development has been finalised and commenced?. If its still a no then I promise I won't bring this subject up anymore (don't want you disappointed again) and us supporters, home and away supporters will just have to endure the poor weather down that end until such time as the development gets sorted once and for all and commences, whenever that may be. Finally I care not about what other clubs have in terms of cover for the fans but I do care about our club and what comforts it can give to the entrance paying supporter and stranger at Hartsdown Park,my second home. Boney Crisp
Ramsgate don't really have any long term plans in developing the stadium, so it was probably easier for them to find a few grand to put the shelter up. They also had stepped terracing, so they didn't have to worry about paying for that. The problem with just putting shelter up the coffin end as it is now is that everyone would stand underneath it meaning that unless you stand at the front no one will be able to see the game. As for the onion bags blog too much has been made out of nothing, his blog post is clearly an angry reaction and the more it is spoken about and discussed the more negative the affect will be. I think this should just be left to what it is and that is a blog about somebody's bad day which wasn't his fault nor anyone else's.
michael
I'm not certain-but returning to cookies post-i think 'temporary' standing terracing from the supplier who provided the 'temporary' sitting accomodation is about £6000 per unit (i may have that muddled with a 'used unit' anyone got a spare £6K ?
