Acadamies at Non League Level.

If I didn't know better, I would honestly believe from reading your posts that you are just trying to annoy everyone Duncs. If the qualification to be a know it all is having a relation in an academy there are a hell of a lot of qualified people. Didn't your precious Sandhurst benefit from playing two Woking Academy boys a lot last season?

You have mis-read what I have put Shutton I said apart from a couple and no I don't claim to be a know it all on the subject in fact the less I know about them the better in my opinion.

Or it could just be that they cannot comprehend others having an opinion contrary to their own.

Not at all, Duncs.

I believe in democracy and letting others have their say. I disagree a lot with Alan (Missunderstood) on political things, but we at least respect each others point of view and can agree to disagree on things.

If you honestly don't believe that academies are of any use, then fine. That is your opinion and right to think that way. However, others have the right to not agree to your way of thinking and think that academies have a place and that more should be done to keep children interested in football and to give them a safe environment in which to develop and hone their skills.

Let's turn the discussion around, shall we... a question for you, Chubby Brown, Smudge and anybody else who wishes to answer:

What would you do to stop young footballers from ending up on the scrap-heap? What process would you instigate? How would you do this etc?

It's an open ended, trap-less question.

I await your response.

I don't think it's about a difference of opinion at all with Duncs.

I'm convinced that he just automatically takes issue with anyone who demonstrates themselves capable of constructing a grammatically correct sentence. It's an odd compulsion but one that has become very evident to me over recent months.

Smudge not quite that simple though. Out of that money you and the college negotiate how much they take and how much you take. Remember they'll need to hire an extra teacher or so to accommodate your players into their timetable, most clubs out of the £3,500 will be lucky to see £1,750 but that's still good I guess.

You then need a college willing to accept, we approached 5 colleges / six forms, had meetings with 3 and almost got there with 1) which then chose another club).

The next thing, 30 players is great, but it's easier said than done to get those 30 players. Although its beneficial for the youngsters if ran properly, parents will often not want youngsters to coincide football with education. Then the ones you do get, have to be interested in the courses your college offer. Then you've got to make sure they are going to achieve necessary grades at gcse level. Oh and the players then have to be good enough to compete at a decent ish level. If you see the trialists that turn up at cc clubs, you'll understand just what a challenge that is!

As for money remaining....well if you run it properly u won't b ending up with much change :/ if ran properly and with abit of luck it's a great venture, it's not as easy as it seems though :)

its not a scrap heap it is natural selection if they are not good enough then they go to the next league down and so on and so on,why do you delude these lads into thinking they are better than they really are,,do you think none of us know when somebody isn't good enough, sometimes these lads are that poor it is embarrassing, what do you get out of it is it an ego trip or a power thing or something else maybe ?

Duncs,

I personally do not delude any lads in UKFF. I am not a coach, although next year I am completing my FA Scouting Qualification and will be spending two weeks in Spain with UKFF's Paul Thomas scouting players released by academies in Spain.

True, some lads in the UKFF system will not be that good, but a lot of them are and a lot of them have been overlooked. I can easily name you 50 former league players who have been overlooked by clubs simply because the scouting network in England is 'not up to scratch' (joint quote by Paul Thomas and Jermelle Stewart - an Arsenal youth coach).

I can give you two examples of players who were overlooked before they made their names - one was due to train with Swansea City but they 'forgot' to send a scout down to see him in action, and only got his lucky break because a coach named Gavin Tait was watching him. This player went on to score 89 games in two spells for Cardiff City and also represented Wales on 58 occasions scoring 16 goals. The second player was not scouted by the team he supported, due to the fact he was from a rough area (Huyton's Bluebell Estate) and it was only after this team saw him play for one of their bitter rivals that they eventually offered him a deal. This player has gone on to become a Liverpool and England legend, is ranked 2nd on the list of '100 players who shook the Kop' and has 100 England caps to his name. Had it not been for somebody putting trust in these two players, they could both have easily been overlooked and cast aside.

What do UKFF coaches, backers and supporters get out of it? Perhaps it's that they are giving back to football, when football has been good to them. You would be surprised how difficult it is to find a new club, once you are made a free agent, and quite frankly some clubs can be obnoxious when you approach them to ask to be given a chance with them. Some people are happy to take and take from football and never give anything back which, in my opinion, is a real pity.

If the UKFF Football Club players are that poor, why are their 1sts and Reserves top or near top of their respective leagues and why did Harrow Borough cry off from wanting to play them once they saw their team contained an ex-Everton Goalkeeper, a former Lille full-back and a left-back who played 15 times in the Football League last season? Somehow, I can't see these three being crap players in a month of Sundays. Gladstone School, Leatherhead FC and Tonbridge Angels FC have all signed agreements to work with UKFF, and this can only benefit them.

However, I agree that some of the players using the UKFF SYSTEM are poor, and will also agree with you and Nigel that some of them waste a lot of coaches time. Steps are, however, being put in place by Darren Irving to stop both players who couldn't tackle a paper bag and also from outside the EU from using the system.
