Wibbandune Closed Down!

Recommended Posts

Wednesday 19th December 2012 - 9.45pm

The club have been forced to close down the main pitch at Wibbandune for the foreseeable future.

The pitch was relaid during the summer thanks to a £71,000 FA grant and, up until November, had played superbly.

However, a major problem has developed with the drainage, soil, grass and root system forcing the club into this drastic measure.

The Combined Counties, Suburban and Southern Youth leagues have been informed as well as the Football Association.

Representatives from the leagues and the FA have been invited to the ground to explain the problems in full.

We will have regular updates as and when we know more and the CCL will be informing all clubs of the full situation and the repercussions shortly.

To be honest Padlock, we are all pretty devastated.

Unless somebody offers financial support to rectify the issue, I can't see us playing there for ages, if at all!!!! :(

Thanks for the offers of help.

I know Tony et al are already on the case re the venues for the playing of home matches.

Trouble is, can we afford to hire so many pitches out with so little income for our home games?

We had to put our own funds towards the pitch upgrade as well.

TSF this is more than a simple waterlogging situation believe me!

I think we must play on suitable grounds as per league rules.

I am not sure re "guarantees" but that is why we are meeting the FA.

One possible option is switching home games away but until Lazarus speaks to all the clubs I cannot comment further.

Sad news Chris, I'm sure everyone in CCL and local leagues will rally to help you!

I hope everything gets sorted soon, nice place that and fond memories of playing against Colliers Woods since junior football, lovely club!

Chris, if you need to raise funds then I know of a few celebrity teams who could play in a fund-raiser for Colliers Wood United.

Drop me a PM if it's an idea worth discussing.

I'm devastated Chris, having only just read this thread.

Knowing what a friendly League the CCL is, I'm SURE we can all rally round, short term, to get your fixtures played, even if it just means for a ground loan.
