Slough v North Greenford United

not happy about this decision, greenford wanted the match called off as they did not have a full team apparently, and were pushing fully for this decision. the ref said he wanted the goal area sanded and as long as there was no standing water he was not worried about the rest of the pitch, then as we started to put sand down he changed his mind and decided that the forked area was too boggy, he would not even allow us to sand the area to help firm it up,if the match had gone on i don't think this referee would have been a favourite as he only made one decision this afternoon and it was a wrong one in my humble opinion and i did not like it.

We were stuck in a situation of either wait to see if the standing water would drain (and the game would definitely be off) or sweep and fork the standing water off the pitch (and risk the game still being off). Fair play to the referee, he did give it as long as possible, but it is a shame he wouldn't let us get the sand down on the affected corner. It was too soft underfoot and there was a risk there. The rest of the pitch seemed ok though.

Well done to all the other volunteers who tried to get the game on, we tried and we almost did it, but unfortunately it was just that one area of the pitch that was the problem.

Is it too ambitious to ask if there is any possibility of trying to fix one of the games in hand for this Tuesday as we are now falling behind (no ones fault) to such a serious extent ....................

Rest assured the people that need to sort these things out are already one step ahead and trying to do so. I think Tuesday is unlikely however.

Funny how a bit of water and some boggy areas can get a game called off these days. I can remember playing in infinitely worse conditions back when I was young enough to play! Mud, snow, ice ........we still played.

I agree that even if the game did go ahead it wouldn't have lasted the full 90 mins anyway due to further downpours.

it was noted that during the crisis of saturday that there was no real organisation in getting the pitch sorted out, there was lots of advice but nobody took charge and organised people in to an effective work party, the resources were limited and the deployment of manpower chaotic, result another postponed game. surely our comittee could work out a viable plan in dealing with such problems, and maybe come to some agreement with beaconsfield on some spades, shovels, forks and sand, that both clubs could use and that both clubs could fund to use in these circumstances. i believe that it would be beneficial to both clubs in the long run.
