Ive been looking at this forum for a while now and would like to stick up for Andy Douglas. I think he is a genuienly quality player and he puts his heart and soul into every match, and on Saturday i think people went over the top in the slating off him, give the man a chance, he will come good, trust me !!!

P.S. what do you reckon the chances of cup shock against Darlo are ???

If onlt the refs would allow his goals to stand! How many of them have been disallowed now - 6!? Wouldn't mind, but most of the time they're not his fault.

Maybe he should swing his locks around a bit, see if he can get a defender in the eye so he can nip in to score.

I am sorry but I must disagree. I would like nothing better than to see Douglas come good but I have become increasingly frustrated with his performances especially when you have Andrew Martin at your disposal. 2 goals in 14 games just isn't good form. Bradley Allen when fit and Vinnie would be a good partnership.

As for Darlington. I'm going to say 2-1 to the Urchins.

Think we have a chance against Darlington. Been looking at their forum and see that as well as lots of problems up there between the Chairman and the fans, their current league position, financial worries and a terrible run of form that has seen them lose the last 5 games, they also have a number of players missing for our game! Lets hope the bad luck continues

As for the Douglas issue, yes, I put my hands up and admit that on this forum I have been critical of him. I don't apologise for it, its my opinion and at the end of the day I thankfully don't pick the team! As to his ability, I don't know, but we have seen little of it so far. I genuinely hope it will improve, but a goal return, which by my calculations is one goal every 6-7 games, that isn’t impressive! I think its time that GB dropped him to the bench for his own benefit and the teams. We have players there, such as Taff and Bradley Allen that will score goals and if the guy is having something of a drop in form or confidence, it maybe best for him the introduced to games later on, get goals and start improving his form and confidence, then force his way back into the team.

I agree with you, that slating a player from the terraces doesn't help, but that was the first time I've heard it this season. No one slated him (to my knowledge at least) at the game away at Carshalton, but he had a terrible game and hardly touched the ball all game. Its a difficult one, all Urchins fans want to see our players do well, but what does GB do, keep playing him in the hope he does start to perform or drop him now for a player that will do the job????

He has been nothing short of terrible so far and doesn't warrant a start. How much time do you want to give him Urchin Fanatic?

As for slagging him off, its part and parcel of football, always has been & always will be. If you don't perform week after week what do you expect?

Thats right. GB is currently doing Douglas no favours by keeping him in the starting line up. I just can't get my head round why he insists on playing him. If he comes good then great but I have been saying that from the start. Can't wait forever.

At last someone puts up for "The Doug" apart from me. I can't agree that he has been "nothing short of terrible" where you actually at the Thurrock (A), Carshalton (H) and at Basingstoke (A) he had three very good performances their.

A certain My and other fans favourite Vinnie John went through a baron state not scoring goals last season but was stuck with and soon scored by the load. As LMU says he has been very unlucky having goals disallowed. When Michael Owen doesn't score for a few games do the Liverpool fans scream and shout for him to be dropped the guy has a history of scoring and soo i'm sure we will see it.

As for players being slagged off for being "poor" the last one who it happened to went on to prove "us" urchins wrong a certain Mr Adam Locke who has played outstanding in three matches.

I actually think he gets a great reception by the fans when substituted and when he scores and i for one beileve it should stay that way.

I was indeed at the Thurrock away fixture as well as Charshalton. At Thurrock he had a poor game again and when Taff scored you could tell by the look on Taffs face that he should be in the team ahead of Douglas!

At least Vinnie John always looked dangerous and got amongst them.

Douglas is a poor player and adds little to the team.

We must have been watching a different match, "you can tell by Taffs face that he should be in instead of Dougie "

How does a players face prove he should be in the side? I think a managers rating of a player is far better grounds to pick a side than the look of a player.

No you miss my point i think AD has three top performances in those matches i also feel he has played well in others.

If i was Taffy i would probabblly feel hard done by as must others in other positions but they don't pick the side GB does. I am sure Andrew will get his chance and IF he takes it, he could find himself in the starting XI.

With Vinnie banned for Saturday i'm sure someone will get their chance to shine.

The diffence between Douglas, Vinnie and Locke in relation to their periods of bad form is that the latter two were a lot quicker to put it right. I'm not blaming Douglas for not trying or anything. I think that he is simply not good enough. I don't he has performed really well in any games to be honest. Carshalton and Basingstoke he did okay. I think that due to his bad performances our expectations of him have dropped and anything he does okay will be seen as brilliant.
