Bad Language from the Dug-outs

How about the FA Assessors do something about it? Can't they make comment to the League and FA about excessive foul language? First instance results in a written warning to the Clubs in question. A second letter results in a fine - say £500. Third amd subsequent letter results in a £1,000 fine and a 5 point deduction throughout the season. Perhaps then, Clubs would take the matter seriously.

Can clubs at Combined Counties level really afford £1,000 though?

Surely that would push a few of them towards financial oblivion?

What would be better is to ban a 'potty-mouthed' player/official for three games for the first offence, double it for the second and give a written warning and the third offence it's the sack.

the sack only for them to be resigned by the same club later on re the referee assault guildford city whats the point in that!! fines are whats needed an i do think dbm has a point itll make clubs think more about there conduct on the pitch!!

Surely its rather simple?

If a player then send him off he misses x games and gets a fine.

If a official then he should be reported and then face a FA/County FA discplinary charge?

The role of the assessor is to assess the referee's performance against stated competences and not to report specifically on bad language from players, management or officials of a club. However, the referee has the option in this respect to deal with players and management in accordance with the laws of the game, and can lose / gain marks in application of those or not.

Like i said before, this can only be controlled through the Referee. It's down to him the amount he allows or stops

And the players and management have no requirement or responsibility at all to exercise self-control and restraint in respect of their language? If so, in my opinion, that's a cop-out!

If people are allowed to swear then they will? The referee is in control of the game, it's his responsibility to deal with it. If he does nothing, then it will carry on. Don't you agree?

No.

So people stand there and think they can shout what they want and if they do not get pulled up for it that it is acceptable to continue ?

So, in effect, and reversing your argument in extremis, would you accept the application of a zero tolerance policy then in respect of bad language?

Just imagine if in a game this Saturday, a ref sends a player off after 5 minutes for swearing. Can you imagine the fuss from players that would be made on here & elsewhere?

Trouble is when you have the likes of Rooney telling the ref to eff off live on TV with no action taken, it's going to happen further down the pyramid.

Its quite funny it almost seems like the further you go down the leagues the more the refs pull you up for it. I have been sent off three times for foul and abusive language all three times was my first offence but was directed at an official.

Being a bit wiser now I wouldnt even think about swearing at an official and all the players I know who have only played at Junior level are well aware of the situation.

I love shouting and swearing - I think it is both big and clever

I agree on this point, it has been my belief for a number of years that if the FA had the balls then they would get the Referees to enforce the Laws of the Game at the top and this would then filter down to all levels.

What about swearing by the fans?

Most of us have done it I should imagine, but it can become an embarrassment at times. I'm no prude and it doesn't offend me in the slightest but I do cringe on occasion at the totally unjustified abuse chucked out at officials and opposition players.

Sometimes it seems so out of context with the game that it just makes me laugh. Thing is though, generally speaking, when the players give the fans some banter back with a smile on their face, said fans then love him to bits.

It's an interesting dynamic that.

Another point is that language and what is tolerated changes over time. Words can change meaning over time (gay/queer etc) and some swear words can go in and out of fashion/usage (think how kent was used a lot back in Chaucer times). I've noticed that kent is used a lot by teenagers these days, even more noticeably by girls, much more than when I was a teen 20 odd years ago. So maybe it's a generational thing and swearing will just increase, at least what we consider swearing but what youngsters consider normal words.
