vs Chertsey

Shame the Chertsey manager felt the need to come on here with his sour grapes. I thought his team gave us a real test and I was delighted with the 3 points because it could have easily gone the other way. He should be giving his players a bit of praise for a gutsy performance rather than whinging about our budget. I don't know what we pay our players and I'm sure we have one of the best budget in the league, I don't care. We have ambitions of getting out of this league and as St Neots, Arsley and Truro have shown before us you need a few quid to do that. The great cup run we've had will take care of much of the finance. It wasn't so long ago we couldn't pay our players, had to field outfield players in goal and 16 year olds so I don't have much sympathy for poor old Chertsey's current plight. Get over yourself mate.

Onto the penalty incident and on reviewing it, does Sean Fraser jump into that challenge two footed as well? Should it have been a double red?

I think Sean Fraser's seen what's coming his way and in a split second reaction has left the ground to try to avoid the collision. I would say his reaction has probably saved him from having a broken leg.

Big surprise that a manager who displays such a lack of professionalism and class off the pitch would so blindly defend such qualities on the pitch. Apparently having a small budget means you HAVE to sign utter morons.

"Not that kind of player"? Well, he clearly is, because he did it. If I was Johnston, I'd spend less time obsessing over money and more time man-managing a player who launches in to a reckless, potentially career-ending tackle -- one that was -- by his manager's own admission -- completely unprovoked by circumstances. Heaven knows what he'd do if he was upset!

By all accounts, your players gave a good showing in well-contested game. But considering your overall form, Mr. Johnston, there’s only one arsehole I’d be worried about going.

you lot still bleeting on about it??

Ive admitted it looked bad. Ive told you the player in question will not have meant to injure the Slough diver, i mean player.

Our discipline record is 2nd best in the division. I have no players in my team that are bruisers and just interested in breaking peoples legs.

And as for being worried, not at all........Chertsey in the past may have been portrayed as a BIG-TIME-TEAM but in reality when the money man has gone, we are a small team, with a small budget, with only a few supporters with big hearts, with an old ground owned by the club, with a shit pitch owned by the club, and players that play for the club not the dollar. I wonder if you lot can claim the same!

It was only 3 months ago that most of you on here were calling for your managers head after a string of poor results, saying that Slough wont win the league playing this formation, or not playing that player, or we havent replaced this player and that player. FANS = FICKEL.

Chertsey are near the bottom and accept being near the bottom with our current situation. Its our job as a team and club to get ourselves up the table. Slough played 42 very important games last season that cost someone in excess of £65k in player wages - but still missed out on promotion! Luckily for him you will have gained half of that back in your excellent Fa cup run.

If Chertsey finish out of the relegation place, it will have been job accomplished. If Slough dont win the league again.....it will be a failed season and it'll be you the Slough fans calling for the managers head!!! AGAIN!!!!

Maybe we should leave this conversation here. I have two friends that play for Slough and I really do mean it when i wish them and Slough all the best. I was rooting for you to beat St Neots to the league title but it wasnt to be. On one hand i wanted you to get promotion and on the other i didnt as the away support you bring to clubs like us is appreciated as it helps financially.

All the best for the rest of the season and look forward to watching you lift the trophy on Beaconsfields pitch once we've beaten you on the final day of the season ;)

Hi Guys,

This has got rather sour and really this is meant to be fun! Early in the season Slough were a mid table side, but have strung two long winning sequences since then. On the basis that it is claimed Slough pay their players a fortune, we win every match. Surprise, this is football and it does not happen like that ask Man City (or Chelsea), out of the Champions League. Our poor players got the better of St Neots home and away, despite (according to rumours) their players being paid more. There were some distateful stuff on the field and the banter off the field was far from friendly.

This was a tough game and Slough rode their luck in the first half, but were rather unlucky several times on the break.

Great highlights, but whilst the ball was in the penalty area when contact was made, I cannot say whether Sean was on the line or inside box. Tough one to call, but the ref and linesman (I think he gave it first) decided in the blur that it was a penalty without the post match aids. The referee was generally poor but that was a fair decision.

I am glad that Chertsey survived the move by their chairman last season and I did feel the club were friendlier. Apart from when they play us I wish them well. But would I bring younger members of my family after Saturday. I will think hard about that.

UP THE REBELS!

There's been times over the years when I haven't always agreed with Steve Bateman's decisions around tactics and players. What nobody could ever fault him on however is his professionalism - I'm so glad we have a manager (and Chairman) that carry themselves with grace and decency.

For an opposition manager to post on another club's forum accusing players of diving and bleat on about money proves one thing - irrespective of how much money any club has you can't buy class. Steve Bateman has it. You clearly do not.

Or a memory. It wasn't that long ago that we were the club near the bottom of the league with no money. So whilst we can feel a bit of sympathy for Chertsey's position, we've been there, done that and are fortunate to have come out stronger the other side (albeit still homeless). You need a bit of money to do well but to keep mentioning it shows jealousy. Which isn't surprising I suppose.

Can't disagree with his point about certain supporters being fickle though when it came to calling for the manager's head!

Lighten up Ian.... It was a joke about the diving, but lets not forget your skippers dive that should have resulted in a 2nd yellow. The budget situation is a clear fact. You have it, we don't. Its you who needs to get real and accept it. Yes of course any club would be jealous as u probably were when u didn't have it. ive been in football long enough to know that money talks in football. I came on here to defend my player and show him in a different light than what the tackle shows on the clip. I've probably been naive & inexperienced thinking I can approach an adult forum to discuss an incident in a match.

Any more managerial cliches you can come up with Johnno?

We've had your Wenger 'did not see it'

We've had your Pulis 'my boy is not a malicious thug' despite evidence to the contrary

Now we've got Benitez 'facts'

Only fact you need to know sunshine is the game finished 3-1. Move on and stop trying to justify Blount and your money gossip. You're not winning any favour here.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Anyway on a different note... Mr manager sir are pomroys stats in programme correct?? 260 goals in 290 games? If so. Wow?!

Stats are correct although nearly of those goals from the Combined Counties days, but still a great statistic.
