Iver rebel
The last time i had a look in at our old ground was about june 2010 and the stadium was obviously in a state of dispair and in need of alot of work.so as i was driving past last sat morning i thort i would have a quick look over the fence. The driving range is still over grown and closed. However why has the park clubhouse had several new windows and security lights fitted the pitch has been cut and does not look to bad also all shrubs bushes and weeds have been removed from the terraces and all four sides of the ground are now clear also the covered terrace opposite the main stand on the far side has has a new fence put in making the ground secure in all corners can anyone shed anylight as to why cheers. Ian
Any questions re WP really need to be addressed to the owner - it hasn't had anything to do with STFC for 10 years now. Arbour Park is our future.
RebelsAndBlues
I wasnt born when Slough played at the Greyhound Stadium. Watching the Rebels from the early 80s at WP, still will always bring back happy memories, although turning sour towards the end (no more needs to be said). As Ian stated, WP is our past and Arbour is our future (were coming home, were coming, Slough Towns coming home My reason for posting, is to ask, back in early 70s, was WP purpose built for The Rebels to play home games at? hotspur
Yes we had to leave the Dolphin, so in conjuction with the then Council a new venue was found at Wexham Park. we laid the terracing with volunteers who also painted the place. My understanding at the time was that we had a lease which stated that football and only football could be on the site. Also if memory serves me well the SLOUGH supporters organization fell out with the football clubs management and so lost a lot of reveue from the then lucrative SLOUGH LOTTERY TICKETS.And so we had to start again with a new team and manager,Nearly all the Amateur cup final side had left along with the manager Tommy lawrence-which shows you how money plays a big part even in non-league football.Maybe I'LL WRITE A BOOK ONE DAY LOL
Windsor_Sec
According to a very close source Mr Thorne has purchased some extra land behind the ground giving access all the way around the ground now and intends to convert the driving range into two 3G/4G football pitches and a gymnasium. He is allegedly negotiating with some local pro clubs [Watford/Brentford/QPR were mentioned] about the Park being used as an academy base for one of them. Apart from the above mentioned work in the first post, the dressing rooms have also been refurbished and new boilers fitted. The pitch is apparently in very good condition given the neglect it's had and the only major work would be to fill in the numerous Rabbit holes that have appeared. Ian
I doubt whether it would be Watford - they already have much better academy facilities than Wexham Park could ever offer.
Bernie Gogan
He's preparing it for us!! Oh no, of course he's not interested in football or Slough Town F.C. so he can't be. I hope planning permission is turned down as usual,
HEAVY TRUCKER
dealing with two councils one of which is very protective towards the status of its green belt land, mr thorne will probably find it very frustrating .
