PremiershipJoyRider
Chuck Martini has been sacked by Walton & Hersham for his constant swearing. The chairman Alan Smith said he took this action to protect the clubs reputation. I find this action very commendable as it seems swearing has become a big part of football life with players managers and fans all contributing. A lot of clubs like to promote a family friendly image but this can all be undone by completely unnecessary expletives. When I was a Brentford fan (before converting my faith to Rebelism), I had to move seats because my wife felt uncomfortable from the swearing directed at the referee by a section of Bees fans. I would never expect to eradicate swearing from football completely as the passion of the game would not allow it, but I do think some of it is completely unnecessary. I must say that our manager, Steve Bateman is an excellent example of a man who manages to carry out his managerial duties without cursing (as far as I know). Looking at our league there would be a few managers and players who might be worried about their jobs if they had a chairman like Alan Smith. Ian
That's very funny about our old adversary, Chuck Martini!! Just as well various Chairman up and down the land never took a similar approach with Steve Browne - he'd never work in football again!
Windsor_Sec
That's odd as it was reported a few weeks ago that he was thinking about resigning due to budget cuts and a perceived lack of ambition by the club ! Perhaps in reality the chairman is trying to divert adverse publicity by saying it's their decision ?
michaelSTFC
I think the odd swear by the manager during the game is understandable, but I prefer the barrages to be left for the confines of the changing rooms during a poor performance or after a bad result.
