The AFA is the Amaetur Football Alliance which i beleive is almost like a local FA an Affiliation of sorts? Old Wilsonians play in the Southern Amateur League within this.

I don't think so apart from within the AFA divisions.

There are some very good teams and very good players in the top division. We regularly used to play Old Salesians in PSF at Cobham and they were a very good side with quite a few players who had represented the England team that the AFA have.

AllStar, I believe the AFA is a 'stand alone' league and is not affiliated to the FA.

I'm not even sure if it's at a recognised Step in the Non League Pyramid... possibly Step 7, but am not too sure.

From watching division 1 games this season and a couple last season it seems they looked handy enough to be in the Combined set-up and they were 7th in their league.

I'm guessing they are not as high as they could be due to facilities?

The Amateur Football Alliance is classed as a county FA. It's a collection of three leagues that have nothing to do with the pyramid. The biggest league in the AFA is the Amateur Football Combination which has 15 levels.

Teams are free to leave the AFA and join 'our' system if they wish, likewise teams in the pyramid are free to leave and join the AFA. This is why I have little sympathy with clubs in the South East who moan about ground gradings, travelling and such like in the pyramid. They don't have to be part of it.

Most of the AFA clubs have multiple sides - The Combination I mentioned above has about 100 clubs but over 350 teams playing in it. Some clubs have eight or nine teams.

Being an amateur association, contracted players are banned from playing.

Surrey FA allow a few AFA teams to enter the Premier and Intermediate cups. In the past they used to allow some into the Senior Cup as well but that's now stopped.

Our ressies played Old Wilsonians a season or two ago - they weren't a bad side. Perhaps a little naive but they'd probably stay up if they were in the CCL Premier and, as pointed out, they're not the best side in the AFA.

I've played in the AFC. Born from the old grammar schools. Great league, barely any idiots. No linos and hot food after every game. Was part of a club that had 8 sides and there was a great spirit and social side. Everyone loved a drink. Can't beat 3 cheers for the oppo after every game too :)

My dad used to play for Wandsworth Borough who back in the day were in the Southern Olympian League but it all got amalgamated into the AFA many years back. Thanks to following him around as a kid I got to visit a lot of great grounds and clubs that are now in the AFA,
