OldTowner
We seem to be a few numbers down at present with yesterday having just 16. With East gone that is 15. Add Imber - back to 16 - with Kane and Matata injured plus Ewang and Johnston away or working etc. Not much depth to cope with suspensions and injuries , which are bound to come . We have lost Barber, Burrell, Osie and Pennant from the original squad and gained Hunt and White, so 4 out / 2 in. Yesterday was unfortunately another example of missed chances and poor defending. Most spectators would agree that Town could / should have scored 3 or 4 in the first 30 mins. We could / should have killed the game off. We have now let in 3 or more in 9 games and 7 of these have been League games. We have let in 3 goals in 5 of the last 6 games. ( Harrow exception ) We cannot score 4 to win a game every week. We are joint worst defensively in the league with 29 in 14 games BUT have scored 26 ( nearly top scorers ) !! Crazy stats. I believe it is in midfield where we need to keep the ball and protect the back 4 - rather than blame the defenders all the time fr the goals going in. The old saying - defend from the front comes to mind. Seems to me that we require a few players fairly soon - another goal scorer, 2 midfield ball winners who can keep the ball and a central defender. Other teams seem to be able to bring on players from the bench who "make a difference" - we do not. For the nuetral supporter the last few games have been very entertaining, but is the Ian Holloway approach working ? Let's hope it does over the rest of the season. It's all about opinions. Steve Newing
We have now also lost Ewang , who has gone to work in France for the rest of the season. So 5 out only 2 in. Last season it was easier I am sure to keep a big squad , with promotion always in the teams sights. This season keeping a big squad was always going to be more difficult , players will be enticed away with the lure of regular football and getting paid. Steve has told us that we can only pay the 16 who are selected for the match , so if you have a settled side/16 you can see why players leave. All bar Ewang have left for those reasons. Get along to the AGM tonight and ask Steve some questions , I know Steve , Jason and Pete don't like the goals conceded stats . OT your post is well thought out and not without foundation
