AFC Croydon 3 Badshot Lea 2

Saturday we thoroughly deserved to lose and last night we thoroughly deserved the win against high flying Badshot Lea. I don’t know whether the journey took it out of them, they thought they had won before the whistle or they just couldn’t be bothered but they just didn’t turn up for the 1st 20mins and we rightfully went ahead on about 10minutes from a Jansen penalty. I don’t think it was a pen as it was outside the box but I don’t think Baggy Lea could complain with the decision over all because their CB only received a yellow when he will clearly the last man and took him down.

Baggy Lea got back into the game on about 30mins with a well taken free kick just outside the box. HT 1-1. We then came out the box flying again in the second half and decent cross from the right, flicked on by myself found Kieran Burrell at the back stick to tap in to make it 2-1. With 20 minutes to go the visitors started to pile the pressure on and on the 82minute they got their equaliser through a decent finish by the left winger. Game on! However just 2 minutes later a mistake from the right back led to their keeper and Joe Loyza with a 50/50 just outside the box in which the ball rebounded and fell to myself to control and past their defender into the net. 3-2.

It took a world class save from Dean Rose in goal to deny a Brad Smith header in injury time but we held out for 3-2.

Yet another CUP defeat for Badshot Lea this time by a CCL Div 1 club (good result) ..... seems they maybe concentrating on the league, but having lost their last 2 games.....has their bubble burst I ask ? I wonder how Guernsey and Egham are feeling right now ?

I think the last few weeks have been testing for us and without making excuses, suspensions and injuries have caught up with us and when you only have one squad with no reserves its difficult. As you will know Bad Guy, Molesey had the better of us and deserved their victory. Yesterday AFC Croydon thoroughly deserved their win because they wanted it more than us. Last night we did have 5 regulars unavailable, Ryan Scott and Liam Roberts (suspended), Jamie Hoppitt, George Hardy & Adam Prentice injured. Hopefully we can get some of these back in the squad.

Bad Guy, Guernsey still remain favourites and nothing has changed for me
