The Mayor Of Simpleton
http://money.uk.msn.com/canadian-carney-lands-top-bank-role Ex Goldman Sachs. Why do I have a bad feeling about this...
missunderstood
Absolutely bonkers to give the job to a Johny Foreigner who has experience at the highest level, and who was in charge of the Canadian banking system which was one of the few countries to by and large escape the effects of the worldwide recession. Nick Leeson and Sir Fred Goodwin must be fuming at being overlooked for the top job they so richly deserve.

missunderstood
I think he's an ideal candidate - glad the UK has got him on board. Indeed, and good luck to Mr Varney in what must be one of the most daunting jobs in world banking.
The Mayor Of Simpleton
I hope that I'll be proven wrong, but I do not trust current or former employees of Goldman Sachs.

missunderstood
http://www.zerohedge...er-bank-england http://deanhenderson...always-a-thief/ What are you suggesting Adam. Mark Carney left Goldman Sachs almost ten years ago Constructive criticism is all very well, but to say that a person is not suited to a particular job because he is either not British, or has worked for a company you don't approve of is at best strange, especially at a time when trustworthy British bankers who have the relevant experience for the top job are as about as rare as hens teeth. Maybe your posts would have some credibility if you had mentioned some alternative candidates.
The Mayor Of Simpleton
Alan, but of course: John Gait (would have argued for a return to the Gold Standard) Liam Halligan (non-establishment and a good independent economist) Gus O'Donnell, Vincent Cable or Jim O'Neill would probably have not been bad shouts either. Basically anybody with a bit of integrity and whom didn't cow-tow to the powers-that-be would get my vote. Carney has support and I can see the argument for appointing him, but I am suspect of anybody who has been at Goldman Sachs or Merill Lynch (that is why I am glad Adair Turner didn't get the job!) Questions should be asked about Carney's relationship with Bernanke/Yellen though. However, one man who was overlooked by all and sundry for the job would have got my vote: Professor Tim Congdon CBE. A very well respected economist and UKIP member (that's Alan and Loose moaning in the background...) but crucially he knows what the EU is costing the UK. He also favours scrapping VAT and replacing it with a local sales tax which has the support of David Hannan and other far-right Tories. Nigel Farage would also have made an excellent Governor, in my opinion. but because he has a habit of saying things the establishment doesn't like he would not have got the job. Big J R
Lets face it - ANYBODY recruited from the British banking fraternity MUST be of a dubious background. Incidently, Canada probably has the best and most successful policy in the world on tackling the recession.
