Billericay Town Unofficial
I'd been looking forward to this game all week. I left the house early, in the rain, whilst keeping tabs on the interweb for pitch updates. I got in to the ground to see the team of groundsmen, both of them, forking a small area of the pitch as the rain still came down. I'd come prepared this week with my ipod and a book. Quite appropriately I'd chosen 'A Night To Remember' about the night the Titanic arrived... I didn't want the game called off, midweek is no good for me. The first half started with some Cambridge pressure but Billericay came back and were unlucky, I felt, to go in at half time a goal down. The rain kept coming and it wasn't looking good for the game to last the distance. I'm not sure Cambridge were 3 goals better than Billericay, 2 was a fair total but they were the better of the sides in the second half. I thought Charlie had another good game, he didn't look out of place against a pro side. Good luck to them in the next round. The pitch has held up very well over the last couple of months but it started to cut up today and if it rains during the week it could put the Dover game off. I can now no longer say that I've never seen Billericay lose or that I've never seen Cambridge United win so I'll adjust the first part. I've never seen Billericay lose a league game! blue pilgrim
Yes, 3-0 flattered them but once it was 2-0, it was game over. Felt we were the better team in the first half and showed more attacking intent. The penalty just before half time, settled them and then they picked us off. I was towards the other end of the ground but felt our keeper was impeded just before the decision. Looked like a soft one, as even their bench and players. didn't react. I don't like to criticise refs but this one was certainly not a "homer". The conditions were horrific but he still booked at least 4 Town players, before giving in and booking one of their subs. This should have been his second yellow ( based on the Billericay yellows). It was therefore ironic that he was on the pitch to score their undeserved third. Anyway, well done Cambridge and good luck in the next round.
Billericay Town Unofficial
To be fair to the ref, there were a lot of stupid slide tackles on a soaking wet pitch. A few of them aquaplaned in to the Cambridge players, silly really. It's common sense, like staying on side which, annoyed one player when he shouted 'every bloody week'. May was a 50/50 challenge that should have gone the other way - Swaine was booked for the penalty after our Keeper had been fouled (this has been confirmed in the Echo News Report) - Collis , I agree was a sliding tackle and just about deserved a yellow) - Luke was booked for a challenge from behind, having minutes earlier been taken out by their substitute, with no action from the Ref. Sorry James you are beeing too fair to the ref.
cufcjpw
Didn't go today, how many do you reckon we took in the end? I've heard from our lot that 3-0 was probably a little harsh as well and some of our fans on twitter admitted that they didn't really see what the penalty was for. Can't imagine the pitch made for a great game of football, absolutely pissing it down, my game was called off so i didn't even get to play instead of watch us. ah well, decent result for us, i'll take it. MarkBTFC
The weather ruined the game as a spectacle regrettably. Dont think we did particularly bad to be honest, they were gifted a penalty in which was one of very few attacks by them in the 1st half. Didn't clear our lines on the second goal and at 2-0 on a heavy heavy pitch that was that. The new brazilian forward who came on looked pretty tidy, good touch and good awareness, any news on him? cufcKai
Happy with the result. Average age of just 23 today and we played a couple of players who can't even get in the team atm (Smith, Pugh). Anyone got any idea of the att?
TSFOR
Cheers for the views guys. It sounded from the radio that we deserved to win but you could've got a goal to make it a 1 or 2 goal difference rather than 3. Our commentators are usually pretty fair and they said they saw a push for the pen so maybe that'll explain that. Good luck for the rest of the season, least you wont have to play either of the Cambridge teams again this year
blue pilgrim
Unusually the attendance wasnt given out but I'd guess between 500-600. Reckon you lot had about 150 plus that flaming drummer bless him.
cufcjpw
People always comment on the fact we have a drum , i don't really get this, do most teams not have a drum? Or is it because he doesn't stop drumming for 90 mins?

Or is it because he doesn't stop drumming for 90 mins? Not so common in the lower leagues but what with that and the ticker tape welcome, it probably made our new Brazilian striker feel at home when he came on ten minutes from the end. I hope you don't get relegated as he might not be so welcome in some of the low attendance grounds - might wake the old boys up after their half time pint !!!! Rick the Dick
Thought we gave a really good account of ourselves in conditions that were pretty appalling. Not often you watch your team lose three zip and still walk away contented, but that score-line really flattered Cambridge who didn't offer much more than many of the better teams we've played in BSS. Special mention for Junior whose workrate was excellent. Thought the officials were very biased towards the more senior team and the disparity in yellow cards was totally unjustified, Good luck to Cambridge in the next round. Seemed a decent bunch of supporters pn the whole (at least, those who could be bothered to travel were).
New Lodger
I couldn't believe the game was played as the ball clearly didn't run freely resulting in a joke 3rd goal. The damage was already done with two bloody awful decisions by the 10yo ref. The first goal our gk was clearly fouled before they were awarded a pen for which no one knows what. Up until then we were the better side. The second goal, which effectively killed the game was from a free kick given after Collis won the ball cleanly, no more than ten yards from me. Well done lads, nothing between the two sides and the difference was a pss poor ref.
jl
Thought the first goal would be critical today and unfortunately they got it. I'm sure a foul on the keeper would have been given 99 times out of 100. The ref definitely seemed to favour them but to be fair we just haven't worked their keeper enough to get a result. Thought Alex looked decent when he came on and if might be worth a go starting him Tuesday. MoTM for us I thought was Anderson who was superb. I lost count of the amount of times he bailed us out on the cover. Slightly disappointing gate but not a great surprise given the shocking weather. Another tough game Tuesday if it goes ahead as more bad weather is forecast but to my mind this is the level we need to be competing at. Onwards and upwards.COYB!! Sticks
I thought we battled well in awful conditions and against a shockingly bad ref. Amazed at the decision for the penalty and the subsequent show of cards. Some of his decisions were bizarre at best. But although 0-3 was harsh we didn't do enough to win the game. Concentrate on the league now. COYB!

Bill of Shenfield
Thought we played well and deservered something from this. But as said before the ref was poor, talking to some of their supporters they had him when they played Dartford and was poor in that game with everything going to the away team. The new striker seemed OK but need to see more of him. Blue Pilgrim their drummer woke me before they kicked off, can't get any peace anywhere these days!! cufcKai
I hate that drum, but it does build quite a brilliant atmosphere at t'Abbey sometimes so I can't really complain. Doesnt work too much at away games because you don't have the same amount of people to join in with the singing.
Umbrella Man
Was still an enjoyable game even though we lost Cambridge were a little bit better than us but that was to be expected. Was an excellent effort to get the game on i personally didn't think it would go ahead so well done to all who helped out. Onwards and upwards. Next stop Welling
