I have sympathy with that view Duncs but if it is clearly unplayable then why make everyone travel and waste half a day. Lets be honest Sandhursts pitch struggles with rain and there has been a lot of it recently.

I once called a game off at Camberley at 12. There were around 2 inches of the snow on the pitch. the Match Referee originally refused to call the game off when I called him to advise him as to the state of the ground. I think in the end the snow went on about the Wednesday. In that case should we make everyone travel in possibly dangerous conditions and then the home club have to pay for the match referee and assistants when they turn up ?

thats fine Kroons but the lad in his opinion says that the pitch is playable so in this case why not let the match officials decide after all its stopped raining here now

The problem is it is always a difficult call. Your view is documented above and has its merits. I have read on this forum about games called off and peoples wasted travel journies and how they didnt know why they didnt call it off before they travelled.

I think it is about right at the moment and as with all things people will bend the rules to suit themselves at time. In all the time I inspected pitches and I did quite a few not one club has ever put pressure on me to call a game off.

I think youre right mate if its midweek, but I think if the game has a chance on a saturday then let the match ref and all concerned see what the conditions are like then make the call,I'm not blaming Bedfont I am 20 miles away its just that after hearing what the Sandhurst lad( who is at the ground )had to say I would like the game to be given every chance and maybe delaying the decision to call it off.

Duncs, that works as long as everyone involved is being open minded as you regarding giving it every chance. What we don't want is for the players to get there, find a flooded pitch and then berate the referee for a wasted journey etc. I have seen one complaint on here already that the players were at the airport before Guernsey was called off.

I've only had to call one game off myself due to rain on the CCFL, which was done in consultation with the referee 'on the ground' who performed the morning inspection for me. However, the opinion of the groundsman was involved as well - he will know the chances of the waterlogging clearing in the next few hours. I had the option of making the decision myself one hour before kick-off, of course, but if the groundsman is saying 'no chance' then that is going to be a major factor.

Mewy your not listening its not up to the players berating the ref whether a match goes ahead or not that is just human nature and you will never stop it,what i am saying is Sandhurst to Bedfont is not a million miles away now these lads have already committed themselves to play on a saturday so they would be giving up their day anyway, if there is a chance to play then lets reward their committment and give the match the go ahead,if its that bad and has to be abandoned then at least we tried,Don't tell me you refs are becoming as molliecodlled as the players Mewy lol

Safety first - if a player gets injured then it's not worth it.

Besides, when the snow starts...
