The death of this forum

Eastside Urchin

Recommended Posts

It seems to me tat this forum is dying a slow and painful death.

No one really talks about football anymore, maybe after a game but in the week it's now dead, sad really as this was always one of the better club forums but not anymore, reminds me a bit of the Canvey forum a few years back.

Now all that seems to go on here is travel info, club info, match reports and prediction league, its more of an information service instead of a bit of both, very sad IMO

It's a little bit embarrasing that I've put as many posts on the Billericay forum today (that will change in a minute) as I have on this one. I've even run out of things to slag them off about.

Unfortunately, I think you could be correct EU.

so many posters have stopped posting, many of the top posters have stopped coming to games.

we probably have no more than 15 regular posters where 5 years ago we probably had around 50 who posted at least a couple of times a month.

Other social networking sites may have a bearing but other clubs dont seem to suffer, margate still get a good number of posters on theirs, maybe it has something to do with content

My only thoughts on this is like anything - you need to get publicity - tweet and facebook topics both as a club and individually.

As individuals you can facebook like, tweet & google + via the links above every topic (other sharing options appear beneath the topics as well)

tweet_facebook.png

The more times this forum / topics appear on social media the more people will visit. This always works, so the more that do it the better.

If you blog, then add a blog here - this will add further publicity every time you mention the club.

More people are using facebook, Google+ and twitter - but that also means a captive audience to plug the forum.

Every topic / post that is created here is quickly listed by search engines - search for 'death of the forum hornchurch' on Google and you will see it was listed 3 hours ago - this means more people will discover what is going on quickly.

The more that read the forum, the greater the chance of getting people through the gates for matches.

If there is anything that I can do, please let me know.

Without doubt the forum needs a lot more exposure. It does tend to get stale when only 2 of the 68 Blue Square Conference sides actively contribute to the BSC section of the forum.

Even when an "outsider" does join in, in this case a Cambridge United supporter re this weekend's FA Trophy tie, they are met with such hostility (beyond the first couple of replies) by 'Ricay even though it's obvious to anyone (bar the dim few) that the post was tongue in cheek and in good humour.

The constant sniping (or is this "banter") is extremely tedious - it really does need some fresh input.

Plus we've received help from other fans as to where to drink etc.

I'm an old git who don't do Facebook or Twitter.

News normally comes quicker on the forum than the Website (No critism intended)

Thompson keeps me going no matter what name he uses.

Valid points.

Re the website, the only way the site will be up to date is if the purveyors of any new info tell the web admins about it rather than just posting it on here e.g. the news of the Grays friendly.

Unfortunately there'll always be a small lag getting the site updated since it's not multi-admin. But, given that the main page alone is getting around 170 unique visits a day (295 on Saturday) the site needs to be right and it needs to be up to date.
