One match suspension last night for picking up 5 bookings. 2 game suspension [Ash & Molesey away] for last weeks red card.

ALL paperwork is a nightmare not just Ben's !

I'll agree to some extent that he needs to calm down a bit but most of it is over exuberance as opposed to malicious. He's still a young lad himself with even younger lads around him who he's trying to help but if you take his commitment out of his game you'd have a much poorer player. It's ironic really that you have a couple who are too excitable and some who you would actually like to see gain more of a nasty streak but young players mature at different ages.

Either way I'll take what we have now as I think it bodes very well for the future of the club for many years to come as the average age of the 16 players involved last night is 21 but if you take out the 2 keepers [33 & 25] it drops down to 19 and a bit ! If they progress at the same time as each other you could be looking at the nucleus of a team that could play together for 10 years or more.

All sounds good but when guernsey have gone an you think you may win the league wont you just get players that will get you up into ryman whilst paying them a decent wage? therefore your youngsters not getting alook in at all!?

I honestly don't think we will mate. We've set our stall out to change the way we approach the game now and that future includes progression through the 35 youth teams into first team reckoning and whilst we realise you won't always get a high number of players progressing that are good enough we'll still try to pick up other youngsters from the area rather than the old 'play for anyone if the money's right' mercenaries. We've been there and got the T-shirt !

Non-League football is facing a major catastrophe over the next few years as clubs keep paying out silly amounts of money that they can't afford, I've seen a club aged 118 years old which I've served for 30 years go under just like that for that very reason and there are a lot more waiting for it to happen. Community clubs like Bedfont Sports and us now are the way forward and they are the clubs in future that will attract the funding from the FA, Government, Sport England, etc.

We went through a rough spell following the changeover recently and it's hard to explain to people outside of the club but with money comes expectation and without it we expect nothing so in a perverse sort of way are actually enjoying the game more for what it is and not what you can buy !

If, and it's a big if, for example we were to win the league next year the average age and experience in the squad has gone up slightly and level 4 would hold no fears for me but I would honestly say it will probably be 2 seasons before we would consider ourselves good enough to challenge for the title.

Community clubs are a great idea, so long as everybody sticks together. It's when arguments and disagreements occur that problems can happen.

At any level of the game, money is the significant factor. No matter if it's via a benefactor or through business sponsorship, any club will not be able to properly flourish without it.
