That would make sense from my point of view. I love the Suburban but not enough games and so much travelling now. We (Hartley Ressies) have had to travel to earth this year.

I know of div1 clubs that wud enter the non senior reserve league to bolster that up as long as they didn't have to have floodlights.

we played Chalfont St Peter on Saturday (0-0).

Apart from connections of both clubs, there were 2 people watching.

C St P moaned about the travelling (we lost 0-1 there and they wouldn't put the kick off back as we had 2 players late).

If we incorporated the 5 clubs without lights and a few more clubs fielded reserve sides, we could have a north and south division with the winners playing off for the overall title?

Just a thought and I am not belittling those clubs without lights.

Not belittling the Suburban league either I just think reserve games v, say, RPV, Chessy, Cobham etc may add more interest to reserve team football.

Hey, at the end of the day it's up to our members clubs.

Richard its a result, you see this is the problem with Reserve teams people (not you )put to much emphisis on Results at the end of the day fotball is about 1st teams and how their results go,a reserve team is a sub servant to the 1st team and is either to bring players through if they are good enough (don't happen at this level) or to get a 1st team player back into the swing of things after injury or suspension,I have to ask the question do you need these teams as it must cost the clubs a fortune especially as they have to pay the officials which is difficult enough with just 1 team let alone 2

We are happy with it mate. They r top of our league and their first team also plays a step above ours. We should have levelled for 2-2 shortly before they added their 3rd with about five mins to go. We have a very, very young side (we have seven players aged 16 or 17) but they are improving all the time (look at our results and the gradual improvement over the months) so our aim is to bring these players through into the first team ( and beyond) in the future. It will take time though....

Duncs you literally took the words out of my mouth.......would you rather have a reserve team that wins every game that isnt developing players or supplying them to the first team, or would you rather have a reserve team that might not win week in week out but is bringing players through in long term +is open for the first team to come and grab players of a good enough standard when they have injuries ./ suspensions.

However, I would argue that it does happen at this level and reserve teams DO bring players through. Look at the local scene, I can see scores of players now playing first team that were in Camberley (and Coves) youth and ressies when i was there and I watched 'come through'.

It is the cost that is the biggest problem. 3 officials, pitch maintenance, Catering etc etc.

Reckon it costs us over £200 to stage a reserve game.

Almost zero return via subs and bar takings!

No disrespect Luke but players who are good enough to play CCL Prem will be playing at the same level or maybe just above, there is this stigma about flooding reserve team players into a given 1st team well in my opinion it very very rarely happens that any reserve team players make a 1st team at this level, don't forget mate I have managed quite a few teams in the CCL including the Ash utd reserves who were runners up and champions of the CCL reserve league (plus 3 cups ) and shall i tell you how many of those players played for the 1st team, not one.cos they weren't good enough

if you dont have a reserve side though after your youth teams its possible to lose your promising youngsters to other clubs as many will not go straight into your first team an if you dont have a second team then where they going to play? therell move on to a club that can offer reserve football with a possible step into the first team!

What about an U21s League, similar to what Football League clubs are doing?

Would that not be a better bridge between youth and adult football?

Who do you think is gonna pay for all of this,it has become so ridiculous at this level clubs cannot afford to pay for anymore, as I've said on here before the massive amounts that are given by the F.A. to the Elite should be filtered down to our level properly and not just token gestures i.e. the vase and the F.A. cup

A very valid and important thread on the forum - good to see. I for one would be in favour of an under 21 league. If the professional game has only just found an answer to reserve football then I think we can be forgiven for finding ourselves without a strong case for their existence in the current format. Presumably the same rule of allowing 3 players over 21 per fixture would apply - Helping those first team players over 21 when returning from injury or needing minutes.

an under 21 league i think is a good way to bridge the gap an push youngsters more into the spotlight of coaches an scouts from higher clubs can only be good for the game , duncs does have a point though its hard enough in the current climate to run two teams let alone adding to that i would certainly like us to do this where theres a will theres usually a way!
