A Rebel and a Saint
Well it wasn't pretty, but we got the win and that is the important thing. With a few changes from Tuesday and the amount of effort put in by the players on Tuesday it wasn't going to be easy, but we kept at it and broke the deadlock in the second half when Smith broke free. After that Chalfont were reduced to 10men for a last man foul on Murphy, before NBH headed back across goal for Burnell to score from a yard. Chalfont pulled one back before the end. Well done to the team for getting the result. Hopefully this can lead us into a run of league wins. Team: Warrington, A Deeney, Murphy, Brown, NBH, Woozley, Parsons, Logie, Burnell, Smith, Burgess. Subs Abbey, Rhone, Fraser, Sinclair, Perkins.
Ian
Well done guys. After Tuesday we knew this would be a tricky game and the main thing was three points.
Irishadrian
Yes not pretty but 3 essential points The first game after a big one can often prove difficult NGU just after the win at St Neots last season springs to mind We havent met many teams in the first half of the table yet but we have lost less points than any team in the league (11) so we have some catch-up to do but promotion at last seems to be on course at present. grandad
Not pretty at all, but an ugly win is still a win. Always was going to be a bit like "after the lord mayors parade" type of day. Back on track?
Don Juan DeMarcus
True battle today! Boys worked their socks off. Ugly but unholy and 3pts is most important thing! Unsurprisingly players looked tired and a little jaded. Mom for me jake parsons 1st half wooz 2nd half
Cookham Rebel
Wasn't there but we just need to keep putting points on the board! The 10 league games remaining in 2012 are crucial if we are to stand any chance of winning this league! Got to be getting at least 26-27 points from those games, may sound like a tall order as that is either 9 wins 1 defeat or 8 wins and 2 draws but we have to be going on these types of runs of form! I believe it's possible, COYR!
Mark44
I agree cookham. Nobody at the top has taken a stronghold on the league and we want to get as many points and truly grab this league by the balls so that teams have to try and chase us in the second half. I believe we can win it Also, any truth in the rumour about sonner that I was told today?
Don Juan DeMarcus
Rumours are rumours heard the same thing tho! I think 8 wins from next 10 would put us in a very strong position!
Cookham Rebel
What Sonner rumour?
readingrebel
I heard Sonner wasn't happy being on the bench, but what player is? Crucial, I think, to get the Ed Smith situation sorted. Is he staying with us or at some point going back to Met Police?
A Rebel and a Saint
I heard yesterday that Smith has signed for us now. Apparently Met Police were paying part of his wages, but thanks to the cup run money we can now pay his full wages. Obviously just stories going around so not sure if that is true. Would be a real shame to see Sonner not come back, he still had a crucial role to play with all these games that we need to play in the next 6 weeks. readingrebel
It would be nice to clear things up and hear the difinitive answer from the club as to the 'Ed Smith situation' I personally think it's a must as far as our league aspirations go to keep Ed Smith at the club. Agree it would be a great shame to lose Sean Sonner but whats the alternative if a player isn't prepared to wait for his opportunity to get back into the team? epicrebel
readingrebel and others what is this about Ed Smith ?
GarySTFC
Mark, Ed Smith was originally announced as a loan signing which is causing the confusion. I think he'll still hold his Ryman registration with the Met Police, but having played in the FA Cup & Trophy for us, I think he's primarily our player now even if the deal did start as a "loan". readingrebel
So it looks like Ed Smith is duel registered with Met Police and us. If so what are the rules around duel registration? Do the Met Police, being his original club, hold the whip hand and be able to call him back at anytime?
Ian
My understanding is you only need to put in a seven day approach to clubs in the same league. Met Police are in Ryman League, not Southern. Unless he has a contract with Met Police (as opposed to just being registered) if he's dual registered with us I assume he can therefore play for who he wants. Not sure what weight holding his original contract carries. Personally I can't see Ed Smith leaving and hope he doesn't.
GarySTFC
Recalling the dark old days..... You can be registered for as many clubs as you like, as long as they are in different leagues. Whilst not required, it is courteous to put in a seven day approach to clubs in another league for a player of theirs, despite said player being able to register for both teams without an issue unless both clubs have agreed the move anyway. The originating club would only have a gentlemans agreement with latter club surrounding a loan spell and as Ian says above, unless the player is under contract at his originating club (in which case separate paperwork is required and registered with league and FA IIRC) he is eligible for both clubs. Now, given Smith has not returned to Met Police since he made his debut at the start of September and has featured for us in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, if anything, we have had the priority over the player as we've cup tied him in both the FA Competitions. I don't believe there will be any problem now surrounding him returning to Met Police. As for Sonner, great shame if he has left the club. Hopefully, he's just gone out on loan or dual registered somewhere for some game time, but the Burnell/Smith partnership has worked well since Smith's arrival at the club. Ian
I hope Sean stays. I love him as a player as much as anyone but one of the criticisms of the manager previously was that he picked his favourites irrespective. Players have to believe that if they are picked and do well then they'll retain their place. Otherwise what's the point in staying? With Ed Smith that's what has happened. Sean picked up a red card and missed three games and in that time Ed has cemented his place. It's only right he should be starting at the moment and I'd hope that Sean can see that. Cookham Rebel
At the moment it's just a rumour about Sonner, if he is still with the club then great, if he has left then so be it, no one is bigger than club and there are other strikers out there who would love to be in our squad at the moment! Football is a squad game these days, everyone gets their chance eventually and when they do they need to ensure they do enough to start the next game! Burnell and Smith are there on merit and goals at the moment, that's the way it should be!
