Swifty
Bitterly, bitterly disappointed. A good game for a neutral but I'm not a neutral. In fairness Godalming were strong, very good in the air (we should have used the deck more) and well organised. The main disappointment for me was that, while some players really got stuck in with early tackles such as Russ and Alex, we tried and sparked on occasions but didn't really get going until Joe came on and, just as I thought we were right back in it at 1-2, we conceded a very soft third and were then opened up at will. I'm sure the players will take criticism as well as praise, so it was a shame that Godalming's keeper made two brilliant saves and another very good outstretched stop, while Kyle had a day to forget and gifted at least two of the last three goals due to hesitancy. I'm afraid Kofi wasn't up to it again, and our midfield needs more punch and not be quite so lightweight. The fact we've conceded 21 in five games is also a huge worry. I really can't see what Joe has to do to start a game. Determined, willing and able to play in midfield and attack, and he made a huge difference both today and on Wednesday when he came on. I'd like to see Jack and Joe start in midfield and Dan and Samad up front, or maybe see Joe partnering Dan in attack, to see how things pan out. There's got to be some sort of reaction from somewhere, and soon.
Guvnor No1
How is Alex Duffy getting on for you lot, see him play a couple of seasons ago for Staines reserves?
Swifty
Alex is a regular in the team. He's playing well, though sometimes he's a bit reserved. Alex has played predominantly in left midfield - he played at left back for a while and did a fine job there, but I understand he requested to be moved back up the park. Alex had two of our best efforts today, a 25 yard rocket which Godalming's keeper saved brilliantly and a 30 yard free kick which was just the wrong side of the post. fatboyatmfc
Ok, now the dust has settled i will give my take on it. We basically gifted them the game. Poor marking for the first goal, two uncharacteristic keeper errors and an OG. Their keeper made two fantastic saves and we hit the woodwork twice. We were well in the game at 2-1 and looking like we had them rattled. Joe did well when he came on, as did Tom Mooney. I think we struggle changing our formation mid game and once we had done that the floodgates opened. Godaliming have pace and power, but to be honest i was surprised at the lack of quality of their football. What they did have is alot of experienced players that know the game inside out. I hope Guy is ok and is back playing soon. It was interesting to hear that some of the Godalming supporters were unhappy with the challenge on him. I was shown a picture by Steve at the exact point of contact between the players. Both players making contact with the ball at the same time. Well, i hope we can get back to making ourselves hard to beat again. A couple of 1-0 wins will do for me.
manurgrate
Godalming were worth their win on Saturday, full of running and very very fit. They came out of the blocks fast and didn't allow us to settle in the first half. We like to play it on the deck but we weren't allowed to by a team who looked as though they had spent as much time in the gym as the training ground. I was relieved that we were only one goal down at the break. After they scored their second we played very well .as others have said, Joe was superb and Godalming' defence were jittery and we could have been on level terms. However it wasn't to be and the rest of the match was forgettable from our point of view. Unfortunately we made several individual errors at the back, which has been a feature of all the matches that I have seen this season except the 1-1 draw with Aylesbury. We have averaged conceding 2.5 goals a game, it is obvious where work needs to be done if we are to climb the league.
