Enfield Town vs Hendon

What a cracking game of football today. Yes there were mistakes, but both sides never stopped attacking and the score could have been something like 7-7 but for some great stops by our keeper. Credit must also go to the officials who kept the game going and made decisions with confidence.

Agree with andyetfc, East in goals for us was outstanding. Superb save from a header early in the first half, than another mid way through said half from a superb shot. When we were coasting in then second half understandably both sides switched off a bit. Hendon waltzed through our defence for their 3rd (or was it 2nd!?), but after we had built up our lead East was a reassuring constant.

As well as East I have to mention Gunz who was excellent today. Hope got the hat-trick but Wallace was immense: great persistence all game, and he caused the Hendon defence problems every time he got the ball.

Having said that the whole team was very good today, obviously a few errors here and there but can't complain when you score 6 and win. An excellent team performance, we've been saying that since we switched to 4-4-2, but now we're starting to see the hard work the guys have been putting in with little reward. Well done to all players and management, you've made many people very happy tonight.

A Nine goal blast - great entertainment and with a bit of luck, as joint 3rd top goalscorers a few more will turn up for the next games.

Thought Gunz was once agian our main threat running at the defenders, if he had an end product of goals he would be playing at a much higher level and with Tyler in close support they created much.

Liam took his goals well and the entire attacking movement, particularly in the second half was excellent.

Six goals and could easily have been more. Great.

However,

I wonder to what extent Steve is worried about our defending, with a fairly consistant 3 in the against column.

Actually 4th time in last 5 games and 8th game we have let in 3 or more this season.

Remember, Hendon had not scored away in the league - had only scored 7 in all games - but let's be honest, but for a super performance by on-loan keeper Dan East, they could have score at least 6 or more.

This has to be a big concern as we cannot be expected to score 4 or more in games to get 3 points.

I would like to see Kirbs play infront of the back line to provide some protection.

Final point - with Pennant, Barber, Burrell and Osie gone from the starting squad, Ewang away and Johnston "unavailable" due to work, the squad is being reduced and we were down to bare bones yesterday.

Let's hope we do not encounter injuries and suspensions, or we will not be able to field a side !!!!

A few signings required me thinks.

Keep up the entertaining attacking play - but let's start defending.

Match highlights from my angle are below. Second half was a fantastic performance.Tyler's goal was class, Both of Liam's headers were very good and we had two comedy own goals thrown in. I thought Adam Wallace was immense, he ran himself into the ground. Jonathan Hunt playing a more central role also looks good.

Loved the way Hendon kept plugging away playing some good football, on that performance going forward they don't deserve to be struggling at the bottom??.........seemed like they turned into Brazil in the last 5 to 10 minutes and it could of been 6-6.... Daniel East made some great saves.

In summary just a really really entertaining game of football.

Steve obviously has a lot of confidence in our attackers to allow us to concede 3 goals in 8 games this season lol, but to be fair although it is a bit of a concern I would rather us continue with the mentality of attacking football than be too defensive and look to play on the counter attack.

We are putting a nice little run together - 1 defeat in last 5 league games (and that was at Hastings which should not have lost) & with Carshalton, Lowestoft & Thurrock in our next 3 games, I would expect the 1st & 3rd games to get maximum points, Lowestoft having fallen away a bit of late and they are certainly beatable having only won twice in last 6 games. 3 wins from next 3 games and we will be in or around the playoffs which is a good feat with a third of the season nearly gone.

Great highlights from thecoldend as usual and another thoroughly entertaining game.

Our attacking play was a joy to watch at times and, despite some defensive frailties, I certainly went home happy on Saturday. Daniel East did well in goal - not sure about 7-7, thought we probably deserved a 10-8 victory!

A fitting tribute to Del - well done with the programme, absolutely right to put Del on the front page.

Anybody know if there's any chance of a game being rearranged on Saturday, or will we have a free one?

Thank you as always CE for the pictures. 15 minutes worth this week and as you said a very entertaining game, with both sides trying to pass the ball on the deck at most opportunities.

Interesting to read the last post in this thread.

Looks like Kirby was displaying a deft touch with the one liners as well on Saturday...

Any confidence (or should that be arrogance) that I had about our current league position being a false one has drained from me after that performance and the loss of Elliot Charles. It's a relegation dogfight and a long, long winter ahead. The defending was awful, we didn't stop crosses first half and could have been a few behind from that, and then we conceded at the worst possible time just before half time, and again straight after scoring, making a very average team look like Brazil going forward. Pass marks for Ranks, Greg, Jack and Belal, nice to see Kirby score a comedy own goal, but for him to say "I've been your best player" in response to some stick from behind the goal said it all about that performance, and any gloss from his comedy own goal was taken away by us scoring an even worse one. Nice ground, refreshing to pay £9, a diminishing benefit at most Ryman grounds these days, and proof that a running track doesn't have to mean a poor fan experience.

SN clearly needs to look at the defence. IMO our current back four is just to exposed. Lockie and White are both doing well going forward and joinin in attacks. However, centrally we are regularly all at sea and the combination doesnt seem to be working. 3 goals per game conceded is putting huge pressure on us to score goals and therefore leaving us more open.

What are the options? White in the middle? Dave Kendall was our most consistent defender last year but has hardly played this season. Ewang? Or will we get someone else in?

Also with Johnstone and Pennant leaving, perhaps a defensive midfielder?

Thoughts?
