Ideas to compensate for loss of sponsor

Given the recent news about the club’s main sponsor, the directors have been looking at a number of ways to raise some money. Discussions are ongoing on the commercial ideas but one idea is to set up a sort of Donors Club for individuals and companies. For donations of say £10 a month for individuals, £20 for businesses, the donor could receive a monthly newsletter with exclusive content, the opportunity to enter a draw for benefits like Associate Matchday Director, a draw for match tickets, entry to Superdraw. The exact benefits have yet to be worked through, which will happen once the club have gauged the level of interest. The cash raised would be ring-fenced for either the playing budget or the Community Program. What do people think of the idea?

How much was the sponsorship worth? That would give people an idea of how much needs to be raised.

Im not sure knowing the shortfall of funds would help fans gauge how much we could help/donate etc etc, looking at different avenues of income in a financially difficult time is challenging enough - the question is would we the fans help out more than we already do...

The reason for this thread is because the said sponsors have fallen on hard times and fallen foul of this god awful recession, finding money in this area is gonna taken either a Magician (Cliff Egan) or a feckin miracle IMO.

I liked the sponsorship raffle. my company pays £500 if I win I get the main sponsorship, but even If I dont I get something, whether its a match sponsorship, players sponsorship, ground board or programme sponsorship

The way that everyone would get something makes it worthwhile

Next hard thing is how many companys could you get to take part

Here are my thoughts Steve, why would my company pay £20 a month which after tax costs £16 when I could just pay £10 privately

Newsletter wouldnt have much exclusive content as most people know whats happening around the club

The draw sounds good and this would make me do it,but it depends on what the prizes are, how many are in the draw and therefore the chances of me winning

So if I approached you and said: "Look, I'm in a bit of tight spot financially...can you give me some money?" The first question you will ask, assuming you don't tell me to f**k off, is "how much do you need?"

No if you approached me I'd call the police...... :P. Joking aside Im just saying good luck trying to get any spare money people have in their pockets around Thanet because it will only be the die hard supporters of MFC that will contribute.

I assume the club is already looking for another main sponsor, wind farm companies, energy companies or the discovery park at Sandwich come to mind. A long shot Tesco.

Lottery funding for the community project.

If one funding source is a sponsorship draw then perhaps some unsponsored players could be added to the prize list.

Just initial thoughts.

PERHAPS EVERYONE CAN BUT TICKETS FOR THE PLAYS ON THE 23RD NOVEMBER. THIS WILL BE HARD CASH GIVEN TO THE CLUB NOW.

I'll buy a ticket but I can't make it as friends are visiting from Somerset...might try and get them to come to the Wealdstone match if I get them drunk enough :D

Doesn't MISA have a role in this already ? Could not their current efforts be expanded ?

Between purchasing food for the players after match meals (up to about 50 or so including visiting players and officials), we supply food for the sponsors lounge, food for the directors lounge, food and the sale of said food for the supporters), we also supply staff for all these outlets. We also supply materials and our own labour in most cases for the upkeep and maintenance of the ground and facilities. Labour in emergencies (clearing snow of the pitch etc) We also supply food for the players on evening away matches, supply materials for the lighting etc for the training faciilties. The MISA committee members of which the vast majority are pensioners spend many hours on Friday and Saturday when we have a home game stocking the burger bars, sponsors lounge and directors lounge, preparing and cooking the above mentioned food and clearing and washing up all the crockery etc after the game. Organising events, collection rounds for the Goaldengate Superdraw. There are currently a couple of events being promoted currently, the Theatre evening in Birchington this month and the MISA Christmas draw which are in great need of support right now. OTHER THAN THAT I CAN'T HONESTLY SEE HOW WE CAN EXPAND OUR EFFORTS MUCH FURTHER.

The food for 50-odd people per home game must cost a fair few quid. Is it a league requirement that we do this? Could it not be cut back? I can see the argument for feeding players (as they have been running around, though giving free grub to blokes on several hundred pounds a week might raise a few eyebrows), but I don't see why directors, of whatever club, should get free food.

prob gona get slated for this by some regarding extra funds for the club but here goes. Why not put the admission price up by £1 that why it would be extra funds coming in on a regular basis just until a new sponsor is found. I don't think the admission price has gone up in years so would a £1 increase really hurt? Ok some will say 'if I have to pay the extra £1 I won't buy a 50/50 draw ticket etc' chance to take maybe? donations are all well and good short term and that's if enough people take the offer up but finding £10 a month for some is a big amount to pay where's an extra £1 going through the turnstiles in not such a binde. Also if the team can be near the top pushing for promotion hopefully more supporters will attend thus expanding the revenue of the club. Just a idea to throw into the mix......and remember it's a temporary just to help the club out of what was a unexpected withdraw of money from the sponsors.

No reason to be slated - it's a proposal worth considering - I could manage another quid - the reference to expanding MISA role , which came from me, was not about them doing more work than they already do (and it's pretty clear they take on a huge amount ) but is about an advisory situation as they are surely the people who can see more of the picture than the rest of us and presumably have the ear of the Directors. It might be an idea for the club to do some MISA publicity this Saturday to get some more membership for it.
