v Mansfield (FA CUP FIRST ROUND REPLAY)

Cookham Rebel

Just want to post how proud I am of the club, management and players tonight, it doesn't feel like a defeat, we were brilliant!

Ok, we struggled a bit in the first half but after that, I couldn't tell which team was 3 leagues above the other, we were more than a match for Mansfield! I suppose the only difference was the level of composure on the penalty kicks but that is me knit picking, penalties are a lottery and we didn't deserve it but one team has to progress!

You did Slough proud tonight boys, now get us out of this poxy league!

COME ON YOU REBELS!

Can't really complain about losing in the penalty lottery after that performance. Every player was outstanding and we matched them for long periods. We were very unlucky for their goal and did so well to get back into it. Either team could have won it. Not many teams could take a full time team from 3 levels above to penalties.

You did us proud today, it was amazing. That atmosphere was brilliant, nearly the same number of people for tonight's game as for the Saturday game up there! Hopefully some will come back for league games. I've never heard so much noise at one of our games, especially when we scored!

It's been a great cup run, so much more than any of us could have dreamed of at the start of the season. Well done to the players, management and everyone who worked so hard to get that game (and the other games) on. We have shown the amazing strength that this club has, so now let's stay united and get on with getting out of this league. Hopefully the money will come in handy as we move towards our next dream of our new stadium.

Got to agree, although we lost, with that performance, felt like a win (if you get what I mean).

I am pleased we had that performance in front of a lot of new faces / support too.

The first half, I felt the occassion 'maybe' got to the players, we wernt competing and losing every 50 / 50 or 60 / 40s in our favour. Albeit, they did have some big players that I wouldnt want to go into a 50 / 50 with. Ended up a very open game which was just end to end.

We were unlucky with their goal right on half time, poor clearance by Rhone started it, but that is not a critisism as everyone contributed to that performance last night.

Agreeing with DJD (not for the first time) that I thought Swifty had one of his best games in a Slough shirt for me last night, he was immense and Warro made some outstanding (world class) saves / shot stops.

Very proud to be a rebel this morning.

i thought once we started getting at them they didn't like it at all. typical arrogant pro players i guess just thought they could do whatever they wanted and the win would come easy. fair play to their players applauding our fans as they came off though

yes we lost but my god we did just about everything we could to stop that being the result. as said after the 1st 30 mins or so there wasn't much between the sides at all. if only we could have taken 1 of our couple of chances at 1-1.

still really proud of what the team has achieved. pens can go either way maybe they were more composed with theirs but at the end of the day they have had training sessions however many times a week to practice all sorts of stuff.

2 last things yet again i saw the sort of performance that if even nearly replicated on consistent basis could easily take us hopefully to that league title. we are definitely capable. the other thing was i really hope that a small percentage at least of those who came out to support Slough yesterday that don't usually go to games are inspired by the performance they witnessed to attending some more games in the rest of the season and beyond.

now on to the big game at Chalfont

Echo all of the above......

Woke up this morning with a smile on my face, proud to be a Rebel

"I'd rather be a Rebel than a moose"

I really hope we can take this performance into the league and go on to win it. Noone at the top has taken a stronghold yet so there is every chance it could be us.

COME ON YOU REBELS!!!!!!

Admittedly this was only my second ever Slough Town match (I think the first was against Chelsea in 1997).

The atmosphere was incredible (whatever happened to the Mansfield supporters?) especially being stood over by the main stand by the goal. My throat is absolutely killing me!!!

The team played fantastically, defended so damn well at times and in the second half you couldn't tell what was the higher rated team! D'Urso had some classic poor refereeing decisions (but it's D'Urso) but I gotta say Warro was an absolute hero in goal!

Big thanks to Lakes who held onto my tickets all day for me as I had a bit of travelling to do and was really late, will definately be coming to a few more games this year.

-- Best moment (apart from us scoring!) was when my friend who has never even been to Slough before asked me to buy him a Rebels shirt because he loved the passion of the crowd that much!

Big thanks to everyone at the club (including EpicRebel :P ) for putting the game on. I thought that the parking at the services worked really well, and great to see so many supporters working as stewards to help things run smoothly. I'll even thank the stewards who kindly reminded me that if I'm going to use my big gob, I need to temper my enthusiasm - point duly noted.

Best moment of the night (apart from the equaliser and subsequent celebrations) was Clemmo grinning like a naughty schoolboy as he escorted the referees off at half time. Wish I'd caught that on camera.

listened to the game on radio berkshire and in all honesty commentary not great

none of the atmosphere could be heard and midway through 2nd half an interview

with timmy mallet who did say the atmosphere was brilliant although you,d have thought there was

hardly anyone there.

reading the threads on here it shows this club urgently needs to get back in slough or more local

as the support is there when needed

Adding onto all of the above, a huge well done to the management and volunteers who helped out yesterday, and seemingly many, many hours each day since the 3rd November following the draw at Mansfield, to ensure yesterdays game was well managed, publicised and catered for everyone. A huge amount of unsung heroes who've gone without a mention, but would like to especially mention Kay for all her hard work. Running round co-ordinating things for the last ten days has been a huge load of work and I think she has been brilliant, certainly from the involvements I had yesterday and she never even got to see much of the game. One of the first things I was told when I was secretary was that if we ever got into the First Round of the Cup, it's a weeks worth of full time work to arrange that. I don't think a lot of people will have seen the level of work and co-ordination which had to go into last night, especially to have a crowd which was far greater than most of us imagined. Massive well done to all those involved and a huge thank you.

Mansfield filmed the entire game last night, with commentary, and I plan to couple this with the footage Nathan captured from our normal source. We'll do a highlights package as per normal and if there's interest, we'll look to producing a DVD of the full game.

They were positioned in the opposite corner to the main stand where the majority of the Rebels were stood and making noise from. It was certainly picked up by our camera, and I believe Mansfields, so that will give a much more accurate portrayal of the noise made by the Amber Army last night.

Absolute amazing performance from all last night, on the pitch, in the stands, and behind the scenes. Can not fault the effort from anyone. We have shown over 210 minutes that we can match a full time team who play three leagues higher, so we should be able to get out of this flaming league, let's do it. Getting home half midnight was worth it for that buzz.

Only gripe was that soon as over large part of stand emptied and buggered off, not many left to cheer off the heros, they deserved more to stay. Bet they would have stayed if we had won! Suppose thats the glory hunting part timers for you. Know I'm technically a part timer too, but you know what I meant.

Didn’t post straight after the game as was too gutted and to be honest nothing has changed. Heaven knows how the players feel.

On the Mansfield forum before the game many of their fans suggested we’d had our one chance at their place and their class would show through. Well after an initial 90 minutes plus a further 120 last night the only goal they scored against us was one we scored for them. We matched them over more than 2 games and for that every one of our players should be immensely proud. I know however that won’t be any consolation today.

After matching them in the first half I feared for us a little when Dave Deeney went off last night. He’s been great recently doing that often unnoticed job in midfield, breaking up the opposition play and making it difficult for the other team. Even after he went off however we continued to match them and our second half comeback was fantastic. Yes we gave them chances but they are professional players three levels higher so you’d expect that. The goal was fantastic – a great free kick from Swifty who I thought was our man of the match last night.

Great to see a big crowd and the noise levels at the covered end were brilliant in the second half. I always have mixed feelings about these one off cup games however. As great as 1600 crowds are I’m quite looking forward to Chalfont on Saturday when it’s back to the regulars. Hopefully some of those who came last night will ultimately become regulars too.

Firstly, a big thank you to everyone behind the scenes and indeed front of house who worked so hard to get the game on and get things organised. I know from recent walks how time consuming it is for Kay to deal with a regular league game so can't imagine how hard it was over the last few weeks.

As for the players, they were all heroes. An immense performance in both games. Defending as a team from start to finish. Didn't deserve to concede a goal let alone lose playing like that.

Warro's double save in the first half in front of the Kop was sensational. You could see how pumped up he was by that and the atmosphere then was as good as a "goal."

The back five worked tirelessly, Rhone was extremely unlucky with his skewed right foot clearance for their goal and he should have been rescued by the ref who missed a blatant push.

Brown, NBH and Wooz were at their best and Sean Fraser deserves huge credit for the way he has stepped up and performed.

For me MOM has to be Stuart Swift. He has been excellent this season but his performance last night was superb. He was everywhere. His free kick was stunning deserved a goal and when NBH popped it in (and D'Urso possibly missed another little push) the place went crazy. For the next 10-15 minutes we had them well and truly rattled and Wooz went so close to sliding one in which I have no doubt would have won us the game.

For all their possession and huffing and puffing, I never really felt Mansfield would score. Yes Warro had to make some great saves but you just felt we could keep them at bay.

If it went to neutral judges at the end of extra time they would have put us through for passion, work rate and effort.

I do seem to have left my voice behind (which maybe explains why out of 1600 voices mine is one of only two that could be distinctly heard ;-)) so if any of the volunteers who doubtless spent more of their time tidying up last night found it in the Kop could I have it back for Saturday please?

These players have shown that they can compete with distinction at a much higher level. These two games are not "one-offs" - the little guy raising it for the big occasion. Just ask Margate and Gosport.

Let's take this momentum and form into the league - get ourselves up that league. Playing like that we can get out of this division. COYR

think if we are to single out particular players then Ed Smith also deserves a mention. his tireless chasing and harassing was top drawer as was his control of the ball to hold the ball and help bring the team forward.

also believe that us fans need to make sure we generate good vocal support during the league games. i know its tougher to be up for the less glamorous league games but by backing the team 100% hopefully that will help boost the players and see them through the sort of games that in the past we maybe have slipped up in or made much tougher for ourselves than we should
