Reminiscing 'big games' at Wexham Park

Maybe "off-topic" but I've never since experienced anything like the intensity/excitement of the crowd under the cover in front of the main stand at the Dolphin for the first of the Amateur Cup ties against Skelmersdale in 1967, although Wycombe in the FA Cup replay in 1970 and St Albans City in the Amateur Cup in 1972 both came close. The Romford game was something of a damp squib, for us anyway.

Yes if your talking big crowds home and away involving Slough, then Skemersdale home and away and Wycombe in F.A. cup home and away drew crowds of well over 8,000.

Thes games were when we played at the Dolphin, I even remember playing Dagenham on a monday night in a run of the mill league game drawing over 4,000.We even had a friendly against Chelsea in 1971 which drew 8k and was not a ticket game,it was to thank us for giving them Mickey Droy.

At Wexham Park we had some fairly big crowds against Millwall-Leyton Orient-Reading and Wycombe, but the biggest gate was Slough School boys against Liverpool in which Brian Mcdermott played, I believe it was around 6,000.
