Rebels247
All this build up / buzz to the Mansfield replay, got me thinking about the big games I saw at Wexham Park and how much I missed the build up buzz to these kind of games. Back then, when we were in a higher league, we were averaging about 800 plus (if memory serves me right) on the league games against lower oppo, then when the top of the table teams came, we got about 1500, so now, seeing a jump from 250 average to hopefully 1k fans, will be something else. However, when we drew the big boys in the cup at home and seeing Wexham Park nearly full to the rafters on a cold / misty Nov / Dec afternoon, the ground had a real special feel about it. Also, not very often, we had to stick behind one goal due to segregation (which I know is not the case tonight). I was too young to appriciate the Millwall game, but Reading 3-3, Cardiff home (no comment on their fans that day), Torquay, Plymouth home (not so many fans, but still both brought a few). Wycombe selling out their end (albeit in the league, but a big game). Those days (a shame) we didnt have social media or people with digi camera's or camera phones (or youtube) as I'd love to have seen photos / highlights of the old Wexham Park on Match days. I bet even Horsham didnt have as good technology in those days either OK, I'm rambling now, looking forward to the Rebels coming home to Slough and of course, all the best for the game tonight. Matt
In recent memory, 13 November is a big day for FA Cup games - we lost 2-1 to Torquay in 1993 and beat Walsall in 2004.
Rebels247
The only VHS I had was when we beat Farnborough 6-2 away. If only we had youtube / video of the final game at Bromley when we won the league. Now that was a great day. Any newspaper clippings from around that time would be good to see. That Reading game, scoring 2 goals in last minute to earn a replay. I alway remember the headline in the paper the following day 'Sloughs about that' . Windsor Rebel
Slough Town v Millwall: 1982. The only game I have ever been to where they kept the home fans in for their own safety.
Mark44
Don't Remember much about Wexham Park as only been supporting since 2002/03....I do remember the 3-2 win over Canvey where Tony Boot scored with 5 minutes remaining and then Harrogate Railway and their inflatable sheep.... Rebels247
DJD - I remember Ian Hazels winner. A mate of mine had a ticket for the stand / seating area and just before kick off he said I could have his seat and he stood where I normally did behind the goal with Jamie Jackson and mates. It was a screamer of a goal. Was it the same season where the Adams Park game was a sell out and a number of fans had to be turned away? I remember queing outside not thinking I'd get in. That was a good night to follow Slough, support was fantastic (except for the result of course). Getting Mark44 - I remember the Harrogate Railway game because I thought we just have to turn up and beat them. They had this big stocky striker (who looked like Rooney) play for them. That and losing to Yeading in the 2nd round were gutting.
HP9
The only DVD I've seen was a game against Kettering in the last 16 of the FA Trophy back in 1985 /
missunderstood
I seem to remember Romford playing away to Slough in an FA Cup tie at a dog track in the 60s, and I dont think it was called Wexham Park. Does anyone know if I am correct, and what was the score?
Martin
Misunderstood, prior to playing at Wexham Park, Slough played at the Dolphin which had a dog track around the outside.

Does anyone know if I am correct, and what was the score? It would have been this one on 9 October 1971 - Slough Town 0-1 Romford (unfortunately we do not yet have any further detail) : http://sloughtownfc.net/reports/2542/
Martin
Due to our amazing database I've tracked down the game which was in 1971, we lost 1-0.
michaelSTFC
The most intense FA Cup experience was the 3-3 with Reading, two goals in injury time, just unbelievable. I can remember one of the most contentious fights I had with my parents was that they had planned a family holiday (in WALES) at the same time as the Slough-Wycombe game and I had to miss it. Absolutely steaming! Was lucky to get in the game at Wycombe along with over 7,000 others with those turned away climbing up the hill for a restricted view. I remember that the big thing back in those days was to get a brief mention on Sky. I seem to recall they showed very brief goal highlights when we thumped Yeovil 5-2 at The Park, including yet another thumping volley from Bambi Hazel. COME ON YOU REBELS! Rebels247
That Yeovil 5-2 was early in the season if I remember, on a Tuesday night. Yeovil were always well supported in the non league level, going back to the Vauxhall Opel days too. You are right, they did show the goal highlights of that game. There was even this channel that started showing conference live games, I am sure we were on it just the once at home. They built this temporary stand opposite the main stand which looked like a gust of wind would have knocked it down.
Kaiser Gibbs Batman (KGB)
Maybe "off-topic" but I've never since experienced anything like the intensity/excitement of the crowd under the cover in front of the main stand at the Dolphin for the first of the Amateur Cup ties against Skelmersdale in 1967, although Wycombe in the FA Cup replay in 1970 and St Albans City in the Amateur Cup in 1972 both came close. The Romford game was something of a damp squib, for us anyway.
Robbie Johnson's Boots
3-3 at home to Altrincham in 1990/1991. Not a very important result for us, although I do seem to recall it being a late comeback by us, but memorable because Barry Fry and a few other Barnet officials were standing next to me. I think our draw pretty much put Barnet up, and I thought Mr Fry was going to have a heart attack! At the other end of the spectrum, saw our reserves at home to Barnet reserves and realised was standing next to Glenn Hoddle, who was watching his brother Carl playing for the Bees.
