A scrappy affair on a dreadful playing surface.

 

We had Nathan Abbey, of Luton Town and Stevenage in goal, a new youngster, Andew Oxbey from Barking and Will Davies of the Reserves on the bench. 7 senior players still out.

 

Goalmouth action at each end, a couple of fine saves by both keepers, mishit shots by everyone. Long balls, little flair in the midfield. The recorded highlights on MotD would have made it look good.

 

Town scored when Hockton beat the off-side trap midway through the second half, took it on into the box, jinked and beat Abbey from a very tight angle. City equalised a few minutes later when Tomlinson hit a 20 yard free-kick through a gap in the wall.

 

Probably a fair result. Awayday's report will be on the site soon. He does this stuff so much better than I do.

 

336 spectators according to the NLP, the largest crowd of the day in the Ryman Premier. 100 of them were hiding in the bar, I would guess. 60 or so Travelling City Faithful out of barely more than 200.

 

I sat in the clubhouse after the game and watched the giants of Non league football come out of that stupid plastic bucket thing for the 1st Round of the F.A. Cup. It rather summed up my day, week, month etc. Stockport County seems a long time ago.
