I was given precise instructions to meet Yorkieexile at Holiday Inn at M1 J20, if you squint hard enough the letters Travelodge spell Holiday Inn in Leicestershire!!

 

Easy journey down the M1 got us to Manor Fields which is on the old A5 in Bletchley. Initial worry was the floodlit ground had rugby posts! Once we'd parked in the spacious car park some more lights began to flicker and the football ground appeared from the gloom.

 

After an early arrival we sussed out the clubhouse and a stern looking barwoman enquired "Can I help you?" A bit too confrontational but it later transpired the room was being used for line dancing! When it started I couldn't look for the fear of laughing. I'd have joined in but I'd forgotten my cowboy boots and assless chaps.

 

Other unusual elements of the clubhouse (it's the Irish Centre really) are an array of Irish groceries available at the bar and also a place where you can pick up an Irish passport application form. So if you're after Barry's Tea or Chef Tomato Ketchup this is the place to get them. No sign of any Tayto chipsticks though.

 

As for the ground, it's wonderful because it's falling down. A full length terraced cover (cover with the roof missing mind), an old stand on the other side and old style floodlight pylons. Although the pylons are old the lights are good as they've been replaced. You did get the impression the Irish centre and Buckingham Town are trying to improve the facilities.

 

The game was Ok, 2 pretty poor teams but both with much endeavour and an interesting spectacle. We were thankful for a winner as it was a bit chilly to endure extra time. Winslow deservedly won, taking the tie 3-2 over 2 legs.

 

Also in attendance Wavendonian, Jimmyjazz, DarksideLee and yorkie. I am now much wiser on the fast food outlets of Bedfordshire.

 

A highly recommended tick and cracking evening out. Please note though there is a sign outside listing banned objects, one of those was umbrellas...

 

The Holiday Inn still had the wrong sign up when we got back to Lutterworth.
