The words of Eddie McCluskey

Recommended Posts

From the NLP Eddie McCluskey “Enfield’s most successful manager”

There is so much goodwill around non-league football these days – if you need any more proof, look no further than Enfield Town. They’ve managed to secure somewhere to play in the borough so that seems to be the future of football in Enfield to me.

There are obvious parallels with AFC Wimbledon – both clubs were formed by disenchanted people and who have created something that would appear to be a healthy animal.

The people who run Enfield Town are essentially the people who used to run Enfield, but I don’t think there could ever be a merger between the two if the previous chairman of Enfield were still involved – I don’t think the Enfield Town people would want to work with him.

I was privileged to manage Enfield for 16 years winning the Conference twice and the FA Trophy twice. I still have strong feelings for the club, but there has been a downward spiral to the point where the ground was sold apparently without any of the directors really knowing about it.

….

Now they are drifting into oblivion with no ground and their ex chairman suspended by the FA, what a shame for a club with such marvellous tradition.

Where will Enfield be in a year? You have to look at the gates to see the direction both clubs are going.

Hopefully Town will qualify for the Ryman league and probably pass Enfield on the way.
