Coffin Ender
A very gutsy performance tonight against a Leiston side who were desperate for a home win. They took an early lead (looked a bit of a soft goal) but we equalised with a Stubbs pen within a couple of minutes. Then their keeper dropped a cross just before the interval and Avery lobbed the ball into the net. Second half, we had a spell of real pressure just before the hour mark. A third then would have killed it but we didn't score to leave a very tense last half-hour. Holloway made a couple of tremendous saves. Bodkin worked very hard. Bookings for Ball, Beales and Stubbs (I think). Leiston are willing and are no pushovers but lack that touch of quality. However, I wouldn't have complained if they had equalised. I am Spartacus
The performance tonight from all 16 players made the long coach journey there and back bearable on a cold and wet night. MOM that boke who kept having a go at thier keeper so he lost concentration and dropped the ball for Avo to lob him. PS nice friendly club well worth a visit. Dutch_Mike
The Leiston website refers to it as a 'smash and grab win', noting that we faced 'constant bombardment' on our goal. Seems they feel a little hard done-by? First time they've lost at home in the league for a year, so they're clearly no mugs (didn't we do something similar at Bognor?) Cracking result, dont care how we got it. And fair play to any Margate fans who made the trip: you're either insane or very dedicated
Coffin Ender
I think 'constant bombardment' is over-egging the pudding a little but they did have quite a few chances. I actually thought we played better in the second half. First half, their guy Osei was picking the ball up and running at our defence. He faded badly second period. And when I said they lacked a little quality, I think nous is probably a better word. I think that was the difference between the teams. Example: Latish in the game they had a promising looking counter attack, ball sent out to their guy wide on the right who was bearing down on our defence. Avo, who had challenged the player who had made the pass, went down clutching his face. Result: Game stopped and restarted with a drop ball*, thus killing the opportunity to attack. Ref was rather worrying, not biased, just looked a bit out of his depth. I'm sure I heard their keeper say to him: "Don't f*cking smile at me" as we were about to take a corner. He just took the abuse. *Actually, it wasn't a drop ball, it was one of those stupid 'we'll kick the ball back to you' moments.

Not the game I was watching right from the off even though we went a goal down we looked the stronger team, watching the game i was in no doubt we would win this. As i said on other thread it was just the last 20 mins they were rely applying pressure and we had backs to the wall. They might have felt hard done by but look at where they are in the table, this shows that perhaps they are not as good as they think they are. Overall it was an enjoyable game and both teams put in a good Tuesday night in November shift, but the best team won.

michael
Don't know how we lined up-but at least on paper-there were 4 proper central midfield players in the team-i assume winning possession and keeping some of the ball-grinding it out-as opposed to these fluffy 'wide players' (sam long excepted )who drift in and out of games. was that the difference ? central midfield control is essential and you need more than two in there to do that
