Hastings United v Enfield Town

Chase Side Towner

Recommended Posts

@hastingsufc United take the lead in the 45th minute, capping their first decent spell of pressure in the game.

@ETFCOfficial 45mins HFC 1-0 ETFC Atwood on the stroke of half time. Even game but Town giving the ball away at regular intervals. Chances at both ends.

Also 30 min delay in Whitehawk/Kingstonian game in 1st half due to floodlight failure.

De ja vu !!

Need to STOP giving the ball away.

Read above from Hastings twitter - there for all to see.

In the second half we gave the ball away so so many times it was untrue.

2 - 1 up / they are down to 10 / Town give the ball away from a free kick and corner / Hasting 10 score 2 goals and take 3 points.

As at Canvey when we attack we played well and again as at Canvey their defence did not like being run at.

However 2 - 1 up and we stopped playing and retreated allowing Hastings time and space to build up attacks..

Sorry, but Learning time is over - we need to take some action and bring in at least a couple of players with Ryman Prem experience.

How is giving the ball away twice in their penalty area and getting caught on the break retreating? Surely it's overattacking.

Another thoroughly entertaining game - though it's a long way home when you've lost!

Two sides intent on playing football - particularly liked the pace of the Hastings Nos 7 & 9 - and I agree with Tom that not closing the game out at 2-1 was probably our undoing. The sending off, if anything, had the strange effect of galvanising Hastings and it really was one of those games that could have gone either way. Their goalkeeper seemed almost embarrassed to have won it in the end.

Tyler's goal, in particular, was special and Lee White deserved his goal too.

Good luck to Hastings in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup - it will be nice to see Gary Abbott (their coach) getting some more success.

Old Towner I know you tend to be vocal when we don't do as well as we would have liked , and less active on here when we win , ultimately last night we lost because we never got the killer 3rd goal , we never kept the ball and played for the corner and free kick ,we decided to give the ball to their keeper who set them on two attacks. We still had spare men to deal with this , but again made more bad decisions as individuals which further contributed to the goals. We came away from Hastings empty handed as a result of this pure and simple. We made the mistakes , they capitalised , we were comfortable in the second half and should have seen the game out as we did on Saturday at Canvey. I think the lads are playing well and we certainly can compete at this level , but no one can legislate for errors and poor decision making from individuals.

I thought we put in a good performance last night; and should have come away with something

We do need to improve, the league table shows us all that

If we continue to improve the results will come........... but we can't wait too much longer for ever for a team capable of winning that type of game last night

We do not want to get to March worrying about results

7 out of 10 from me

Come on TOWNERS

Er,

I was on here on Saturday after a "win" and on here Tuesday after a defeat.

When we attacked in both games we looked good and as I have said, Canvey and Hasting defenders would not like to face that every week.

However, in my opinion, we do give the ball away far too many times and therefore give up hard worked possession.

Goals 2 and 3 v Hastings came from us giving the ball away - actually poor crosses straight to the keeper.

In general terms I agree with your comments above on the game.

I also maintain that we need at least 3 quality players with Ryman Prem experience to improve the side - okay, not easy - but we need a ball winner and a player who can hold up play, hold the ball which may keep us wth possession.

I would also like to see a forward playing with Liam who can hold the ball and who Liam can play off.

I would also like to win the lottery !!!!

Finally, supporters have a right to an opinion........... and after driving to Hastings and back after a days work.........I had mine.

I hope it was seen as that .......... an opinion..

Old Towner , you are right everyone is entitled to an opinion. I thnk Gunz has been playing well with Liam since Steve changed the formation and holds the ball up well which gives Liam

more time to play off and around him. I agree we do give the ball away too much , not on purpose I'm sure buy more as a result of poor decision making. Like you we both have identified that we needlessly gave the ball to their keeper twice and got punished on the counter attack twice. You saw how Steve reacted , he subbed Joe who is in my opinion now showing what a good player he is and will score us all important goals from midfield. If we stop making silly mistakes I agree we can all see we will cause teams problems when we attack because we have some attacking players who when on form will pose a real threat. A strong ball winning midfield player again I agree would be a good addition. I think we have seen that Steve looks to improve the side and squad when he needs to , Lee White and Hunty show that this season. Rather than throwing in Chalky from the U 18, side he went and got a pro from Brighton ( dan east ) to cover for Noel. PS if you win the lottery give some money to Steve and he will be able to go and get whatever players he wants lol !
