Slough v Rugby

Windsor Rebel

I think Ian is asking the right question - what the hell happened?

First half we did everything but score, we were so comfortable it was unreal and Rugby were never in the game. Second half was just terrible. Why did no one tackle the one man who took on our entire team in the first ten seconds of the half? We all saw who was at fault in the run up to Murphy's sending off and the second goal, and he should definitely know who he is, it was just awful. We gifted them two goals.

To be fair things improved and we pulled back the goals, including that excellent goal from Smith. But while Rugby sat back with a flat back four, we ended up with two defenders on the wrong side of our half all the time and that let in Rugby for their third.

We should have comfortably won that game but stupid individual mistakes cost us.

First half we did everything except:

1) pass the ball to one of our own players/not give the ball away

2) have any form of shot on goal to make their keeper make a save

3) make any half decent sort of challenge, especially from our 2 central midfielders

4) show any sign of creativity again especially from out central midfield

For the second half see 1, 3 and 4 above.

After clawing our way back into the game to cap it all we then proceeded to play Kamikazi football and promptly gifted the points to Rugby.

IMO out of the starting 10 outfield players only Jake Parsons, Ed Smith and Danny Burnell had half decent games tonight, the rest might as well have stayed at home.

I love the rebels as much as the next man & woman, but starting to worry that this cup run has already derailed our promotion chances. Yes, weve made some well needed money from the competition which is good, but we are now in early November and I still dont feel as we have really started in the league yet.

Taking into account the number of away 'in hand' games we need to catch up on ......... with a number of these being midweek if memory serves me right.....and the pressure is always on when you look at that league table and seeing the top teams pulling away each week.

Granted the boys put in a great shift on Saturday and yes teams will drop points over the season, so I guess I can cling to fact that (again, from memory) St Neots came from nowhere early part of last season.

I just want out of this league and probably venting because of disapointed from last night :(

COYR!!!!

After a great run, with only 1 loss in 13 games, we were due a poor performance, and last night we certainly got it. If we only lose 1 of our next 13 games, memories of last night will have long faded away. I'm prepared to cut the players a little slack on this one..

It was bad, but these things happen. Lets hope that Saturday is a lot better.

Very much agree with what you are saying Ted.

It is all too easy to over react to last nights result but we have not lost since Gosport FA Trophy and we had 5 very important players missing meaning not only were we short but we had to change our shape completely to 442

I think we will get back on track and will be right up there come the end of the season.

Also, the cup run can only be a good thing, yes we may have fallen behind now but we are raising our awareness at a crucial time in the clubs History with the inevitable move. Also if we keep 20 fans from the cup then its all good, the money we have earnt may also help us get that little bit of extra quality should it be needed for a final push at the title.

COME ON YOU REBELS!!!

For any new supporter you had in last night it was a very enjoyable game for them to attend. 5 goals and you played some nice attractive football at times. You'll be thereabouts at the crucial time. Don't like giving the refs any grief but the one from last night was awful. We're sure he got 8 and 6 mixed up for the sending off. Your sending off was harsh. Anyway, nice to see some old faces and enjoy next Tuesday's tie. Hope you go through.

Last night was incredibly frustrating but it’s difficult to point fingers too much as the application and effort was there, we just fell foul of a couple of individual errors. Rugby are a good team yet in the first half we were very positive and played really well. We went to sleep from the second half kick-off unfortunately and were then playing catch-up.

In most case nobody is harder on the players than the players themselves so they’ll be disappointed too. The key is what reaction we get. As others have said if it’s one bad performance every 13 games I’ll take that.

Sadly dreams are what they are JUST DREAMS!

There is no way we will make even the play offs, yet people here think we can win the league! Whats happened to the supporters who can read teams for what they are rather than what they'd like them to be.If you have the savvy to earn a draw against Mansfield but cannot beat much lesser teams, that says it all.

WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN THEY LOSE TO MANSFILD IN THE REPLAY?I

iT'S ok I already know,so hang on to your dreams-that's all you will have left.

Hotspur, we will be in the playoffs at the very least.

In response to your question, When/If we lose to Mansfield in the replay then we will all clap off our players and thank them for a fantastic cup run.

The increased attendance over the two games against them will mean the club will have earnt around 20k and 50k if you add the cup money to it. We would have raised our profile in the town at the right time and be proud of what we have achieved as a club.

Hotpsur, you are so boringly predictable. You only post when we lose.

If anyone is dreaming it’s people that are living in the past. It wouldn’t have happened in my day blah blah, back then we had a proper team blah blah, this team is no match for the old Slough teams blah blah. If people don’t like it stop moaning and vote with your feet. Alternatively put up with an occasional defeat (one in 13) and shut up.

Utterly bizarre game.

We changed half the team and yet started really well, I thought we were playing good stuff in the first half knocking the ball around and controlling the tempo. We had one goal ruled out for offside, and Smith made a bit of a hash of a one on one with the keeper.

Even in the second half we played well in patches and managed to haul ourselves back into a game in which we looked dead and buried. But we seemed determined to repeatedly shoot ourselves in the foot. By my reckoning we made 5 individual errors which contributed to their three goals. Absolutely handing it to them on a plate.

On reflection there were definitely positives though, Murphy and Sincs are working their way back to full fitness and looked quite good, Parsons had another excellent game and Perkins stepped in and looked assured at the back. The never say die spirit that got it back to 2-2 was also commendable and if anything perhaps we were a little naive in going for a win when we could have sat in, taken the point and been roared off for the effort.

For me though, we are lacking a bit of quality in the middle of the park. When they went down to ten men we needed someone to grab control of the game and dictate matters.

Totally agree about the middle of the park last night. Deeney and swift have been excellent recently and I think burgess struggled yesterday playing centre mid virtually on his own. Like others before me I shall refrain from naming individual poor performers. I'm sure he knows who he is anyway!!!

Did not realise we have made £50 k----I thought I read some where that first round winners got £12 k-I guess my A level maths is a bit like the team inconsistant.Still if you are right £50 K will get us some good players,we hope.
