AnfieldTowner
A great performance on Saturday of which we should all be justly proud - we had a squad full of heroes out there! I suspect most of us feared the worst when Noel Imber went off after 15 mins and we didn't have a substitute goalkeeper on the bench. Lee White stood up to be counted and did a great job between the sticks - and was ably supported by the rest of the lads who battled for everything. Whilst we shouldn't get carried away, Canvey looked a good side who like to play football - very different from some of the Canvey sides we've seen over the years. We weren't out-muscled in the way that we have been by some teams and the game was a really good advert for football at this level. It's difficult to single any player out because everybody gave their all for the cause but Liam Hope's hat-trick was pure class - I think it was the third one that was a great team goal. Adam Wallace was a great foil for Liam all afternoon and Tyler Campbell had a growing impact in the second half, particularly when he moved to the other side of the pitch from the Canvey No. 3 who looked a really good defender. The midfield and defence to a man stood strong and gave everything they had. Well done lads - I think you might have to do it all again tomorrow night if we're to take anything from Hastings!
