dflman
As I recall - Cockneys being mainly supposed to be from the East of London went to Southend and Clacton (Jaywick Sands) for their outings (and Chas Hodges does say they only used Margate as it scanned better in the writing of the song ). The Bow Bells are actually in the church of St Mary Le Bow in the City of London not Bow London, E3 , so could actually be heard in West London easier (whose locals mainly went to Brighton or Hastings for quick days out). Am impressed by the sunshine in November 1961 as it apparently cast a shadow over the pitch from the Dreamland Big Dipper. Note that Tony Hately was their main man and he went on to tour a lot of clubs as a bludgeoning centre forward with fantastic heading ability. His ground play however was wonderous to behold and Tommy Docherty once said of his passes that they were "made with to whom it may concern". We could do with someone like that at Margate now. Jeff Trice
Pretty sure Tony Hateley's the Notts County player jumping against Bob Harrop in one of the pics. Just added another batch of photos to the site too.
