Wellsie
I would have thought the right thing to do would be to contact the club directly (all the info is on the website) rather than wait for the opportunity to come to you / the player. I can't imagine our manager putting up with that approach on the pitch!

The Mayor Of Simpleton
The trouble is (and I have been there as a player) is that you contact a club and they never get back to you, despite phone calls and emails, and then snap at you if you ask for an answer. It may not be the 'traditional' way, but if Jake is struggling to get noticed by teams then why not advertise? If Margate FC or Arsenal FC did not advertise and operated as a 'closed shop' nobody would want to know, yet it can be very hard for players to get noticed if they go under the radar like a lot of the Football Finder lads. They have (for example) an ex Cadiz GK, an ex Everton GK, an ex Norwich full-back, an ex Oldham full back, an ex Lille full-back, a former Top Oss midfielder, a former Birmingham City U16 attacking midfielder, and two former Watford strikers on their books - no other sides took any interest and so they've got them. Now, most sides would go 'hmmm I would kill to have a player like THAT in my team...' yet they are still free agents.... I know their Chairman, and he does a good job overseeing operations there. He tries very hard to help find these players new clubs, but most clubs are like 'da heck whaaa?' when he calls them. Oh well, if they don;t want a class player their loss. I've seen Jake play for Football Finder v Leatherhead and he played a great game. He's about Conference North/South standard and pretty solid. That is not true for the majority of clubs and certainly not Margate.
Wellsie
I would encourage Jake to contact the club directly - there are email links on the webiste for the manager, CEO etc. I genuinely don't think that leaving a post on an unofficial fans forum sends the right message to a potential employer; football or any other form of work. If he was keen, he might follow an email up with a phone call to the club, but a passive approach is unlikey to be very successful in my opinion.. The Mayor Of Simpleton
That is not true for the majority of clubs and certainly not Margate. Maybe I was just unlucky then, but it's happened to me with at least 15 clubs and I would name them. Jake's been told to contact Margate, so we'll see what happens.
