7 day approach

Recommended Posts

The FA Seven Day Approach Rule Once the 7-day Approach Rule has been followed, the club/player can then complete a league transfer form. THE FA SEVEN DAY APPROACH RULE (A) You want to speak to or approach a player signed with another club about signing for you. A manager wishing to speak to a player about joining their team, when the player is already registered with another team, MUST ask their club secretary to write to the secretary of the players current club given seven days formal written notice of their intention to speak to the player. This written notice must be sent by special delivery or recorded post or a written acknowledgment otherwise obtained from the secretary or chairman of the player current club (fax or e-mails may be used provided a receipt of acknowledgement is also obtained). Once this has been done, the player can be spoken to on or after the eighth day and the player must be registered on or before the 21st day. If the player declines your offer to leave their current team and join your team then you cannot approach them again in the same season (the FA season is from 1st July to 31st May). You can only approach one player in the same team at any one time. You cannot approach another player in the same team within 28 days. Tip: Always ensure that you receive a read receipt / acknowledgement from the player's current club secretary before you make any contact with the player

How do you get the second player to de-register if you can't approach him?

I had to smile when reading the second post of this thread from Phoinex, Kentish Town always used to be the worst offenders for not playing things by the book and everything was done on a wing and a prayer, now all of a sudden they have 'a holier than though' attitude.

what about if the player approaches the club he wants to join ?

If he does guess you just tell him to ask for cancellation but he could do that anyway if he wants to leave.

FA Handbook, page 115

(vi) if an approach is made by a Player to another Club during the current

season, that Club shall give the Club(s), for which the Player is known to

be registered or has played, seven days’ notice of approach as set out in

Rule C2(a)(i) to (v) above before registering the Player

If you are a Saturday club, only applies in respect of his Saturday Club(s), not Sunday - so you can poach as many Sunday players as you like!

Guess that explains why the following season after kicking you out the club were Division One Champions

I forgot to add 'and the rest is history', as Karen rightly pointed out the following season the Club won Division 1 without breaking sweat and without any influence from me
