Leighton away

Whilst there’s understandable excitement about the FA Cup First Round we need to focus on a vital league game tonight at Leighton. Difficult selection issues for the management tonight. Is it worth resting Ed Smith and Danny Burnell before Saturday and giving Ben and Sean some game time? Do we look at using some other members of the squad also?

Leighton historically has not been an easy place to get a result although their home record so far this season isn’t great. Do we rest players or stick with our strongest line up? Either way we need to forget about Mansfield and focus on three points tonight. The FA Cup run is fun but promotion is the main goal this season.

Agreed on the promotion part being a main focus for the overall season.

In selection tonight I would be tempted to rest players for Saturday, however, Bateman has been quoted in the paper on several occasions as being a fan of momentum (which of course has its benefits) and so I would not be surprised if our strongest team started tonight.

I agree with Ian, although it will be a great day out for all on Saturday, I don't want us to forget about the league (which for me is more important), so personally, would like to see us put out our strongest side this evening.

Although we have games in hand (albeit quite a number away from home), you can't beat having points in the bag and the league table doesnt make for good reading at the moment.

was worried going into the game that it was a game we could slip up in but we went about it the right way attacking them from the 1st minute. whether it was how we stamped our authority on them or not Leighton basically fell to pieces and were very poor for the majority of the match. they had a brief spell 1st half after we had missed 2 great early chances but after that they struggled to keep the ball on the field more often than not.

after the 2 early goals 2nd half in a spell that Leighton crossed the halfway line on a handful of occasions we made a few changes and stepped off the gas a bit thankful we could afford to cruise through the last 20+ minutes
