Billericay 3 -1 Havant

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon at the lodge. Having missed the wins against Dorchester and Eastleigh this is the best I have seen the blues play this season.

Dave Collis opened the scoring with a fantastic strike. The ball sat up nicely around 25 yards out and Collis hit it first time, sending the ball flying into the top bin. One of the best goals I've seen us score in recent memory. Osbourne made it 2-0 from a Luke cross, another nice goal and we deservedly led at the break.

The third was Osbourne again, a scrappy goal that appeared to just cross the line. Havant pulled one back with a strange looking goal, everyone just seemed to watch it go in and I couldn't see exactly what happened from my vantage point.

Thus followed a fairly nervy period for players and fans alike but thankfully we managed to keep them out and ran out deserved victors in my opinion. New keeper made a string of good saves throughout the game and had a good shout for MoM. His kicking certainly needs some work, but it's inevitable that players will have one weakness or another at this level, and frankly I'll take some poor kicks in exchange for great shot stopping. Also seemed to have a good command of the area.

My first viewing of Taylor and was impressed. As others have said on this message board, he and Osbourne could be a very handy partnership. Some good competition for places too, with Luke, Lechmere and Greene all looking handy on the flanks.

Seems to be a polar opposite of last season when we looked rock solid at the back, but struggled to break teams down. This year I'd back us to score against anyone, and today we looked threatening almost everytime we went forward, including some pacy counter attacks. However we tend to look shaky at the back, and only 1 clean sheet so far speaks for itself. Hopefully the new personnel will settle in and we can begin to shore up the defence.

Overall a very positive afternoon, save for the miserable weather, and I left feeling very chuffed and optimistic. Tough game to come on Tuesday, but no reason to be fearful, just play as we did today. COYB

This is the second game I've seen now, I decided to give Billericay a try a fortnight ago and haven't been disappointed.

I live in Pitsea and recently started a new job in Billericay which made me realise how easy it is to get to New Lodge. I used to be a season ticket holder at Colchester United but have grown disillusioned with the way the club has changed since the move in to the new McStadium and haven't been for 3 or 4 years. I only tend to go to a few odd games when a mate wants to go to a league ground he's not been to or a group of us go abroad to watch a game.

I fancied getting back in to following a team regularly and with Billericay easy to get to, reasonably priced to get in and playing at a good level they seemed the obvious choice.

Today was another good game and a good result. I think I've seen 5 or 6 BTFC games over the last few years now and I've never seen them lose.

Good day all round, the sense of belief is coming back to the players. Taylor and Osborn are a breath of fresh air upfront, always seem to know where each other are.

Leaking goals is an issue, but if we are going to out score the opponents then I will be happy.

Jamie you made the right decision, keep coming along win lose or draw, it's nice to get new people through the gate and seeing what our town possesses. If you fancy an away trip, Tuesday will

Be fun!

On to tuesday, a point for me is good, 3 would be amazing!

An excellent result for us in a very enjoyably game. I took in a Ryman game in our week off and the gulf in quality is vast.

Superb strike from Collis and an excellent second from Osborn. A shame we couldn't manage a clean sheet but that was no fault of the keeper who had an excellent debut.

I thought H&W looked decent enough and it's clear our home form will be critical in a very tight league. The crowd was disappointing but an hour of biblical freezing ran in the hour before kickoff must have deterred a few.

Tuesday's team selection will be interesting. it's a tough game for us but almost a freeroll. I hope we keep playing positively.

Well done lads. Come on you Blues!!

I can't do midweek games unfortunately but I've marked all the Saturday home games down in my calendar.

I'll be back in the Cowshed for the game against Weston.

I found this on the H & W forum. very amusing

the most galling thing for me was the fact that the Billericay players didn't even seem that bothered on the final whistle ,I can remember when in the not too distant past we were a big scalp and they would have celebrated like they'd won the world cup.

It must be something about teams that play us in yellow shirts that have supporters who have a misplaced sense of perception as to where they are in the World....

Apologies to Havant for not being in awe of them! Overall we deserved the points. Fantastic debut from Bartlett and shows the benefit of having quality between the sticks. We look like scoring but we look like conceeding. Great entertainment value and that's what will bring the crowds in.

James sorry.

Good good, bring some more along with you and get them to watch there real local club.

Come on you blues!!!

To a lot of people I know Billericay isn't their local team. My local teams are Bowers and Basildon. I was involved with Basildon about 10 years ago but the Essex Senior League is a horrendous standard and the club will go nowhere.

I'll have to start putting names to faces of people on here at some point.

Financially I won't be supporting them again until a certain person leaves the club. Until then, and probably after that, I will happily give my support to Billericay Town. It's nice to watch a local team and not have to run their website or work on the match programmes! Happy days :)
